Arsenal’s priorities: Olivier Giroud, Yann M’Vila, Jack Wilshere and all things Gourcuff

|

Olivier Giroud has completed his move from Montpellier HSC to Arsenal for a reported £13 million fee, not a bad deal for the gunners, some papers now believe this is the end of van persie’s time at Arsenal I wouldn’t be so sure, if anything this shows Van Persie he’s not a necessity anymore there’s more than enough firepower in this squad now, and with van persie having a heavy price over his head and age against his side he’s running right out of options, positive signs for the gunners even if the local media doesn’t want to paint that picture.

In other news Harry Redknapp has called for England to be more positive and sees Jack Wilshire as the man to lead the charge, calling him the next Pirlo “ are you Tottenham in disguise?” is Harry trying to put extra pressure on Wilshire this season for Tottenham’s gain I wouldn’t say no.

Next is the news that Arsenal could be ready to pull out of the race to sign Yann M’Vila (source: The Metro), Wenger keeps the national team very close to his heart and with Yann M’Vila being involved in the aftermath of France’s woeful Euro 2012 exit and having poor disciplinary record, being arrested three times in two years is hardly going to impress the gunners boss. It is though worth a mention that van persie had a bad disciplinary record before joining Arsenal, which nearly put his move in jeopardy but is now arsenal captian! Some players are worth the risk.

Speaking of French players that could be on their way to the emirates Yoann Gourcuff is a name that has been on the back of papers for years, and has been linked with Arsenal more times than he’s been injured (a lot) would he be worth the risk? For me yes he would make an excellent signing for the gunners his technical ball play would bring back that midfield quality that arsenal were missing last season whenever Arteta was out and when mini Pirlo was injured.

What’s your take? What should Arsenal’s transfer priorities be? Do the Gunners need to look at their midfield? If you were Wenger where would you be looking to splash your cash? Get in touch with us through the comments section!

I would want Arsené Wenger 2 buy a good player in d right back & also 1 good centre back & goalkeeper as well.

  • zewde daba says:

M”Villa should be arsenals player soon without anyprecondition.

  • richard morgan says:

Good piece, I agree that the purchases of Poldolski and Giroud are two fold firstly to show intent on challenging for silverware in a bid to get rvp to stay and secondly a little reminder that no one is irreplacable no matter how good you are. I think m’villa is worth a gamble after all he is still only 21 and plenty of time to mature. Goucuff I am not sure about but it is certain we require something more creatively Pirlo would also be desirable and has experience and class in abundance We do have two promising attacking midfield talents and we may see them this season more prominently thats Gnarbry and einsfeld so we are slowly getting a twenty five man squad that can be interchanged without detriment to the teams chances of challenging for silverware

    • Vishal says:

Richard, Mini-Pirlo == Jack Wilshere. No ways is the real pirlo comin to The Arsenal.

    • Shapiro says:

Bringing Pirlo to Arsenal could be a very wise move. The team needs a few ‘finished products’ not a bunch of ‘work in progress’ players who will leave as soon as they become established players. Arsenal is fast becoming a club that grooms young player for the future benefit of clubs like Man City and Baca

  • Hashim says:

If I were wenger, I would sign two central midfielders, Nuri Sahin and one of either Gourcuff, Draxler, or Montolivo. Would have loved to see Ozyakup play for Arsenal, but Eisfeld should get the nod this time from the reserves

  • Ashraf says:

I think that Wenger is overlooking the defense problems we had last season. Not only the defense but also the Goalkeeper, Scz is quite good but he lacks alot of qualities, I mean we can’t trust him to shoulder the responsibilities of a goalkeeper. he is overconfident and believe me i hate that

    • J Amos says:

Yeah! Arsenal needs a very experience goalkeeper. Am so disapointed wit Scz attitude.

  • afeez says:

we need more exprience play in d mifield nd defened pls mr wenger go an get them now

  • kiki says:

    would love to see wenger buy 2 full-backs(right and left),another striker,a new GK,and 3 mid-fielders.he should sell:denilson,diaby,djourou,squillaci,chamakh,bendtner,vela,park,ramsey.bring in:dempsey,m’vila,debuchy,joselu/adriann lopez,butland,a left back and another goalie.

  • Omoniyi says:

Good post, but i‘ll like wenger to buy a good defensive mildfilder, bring bartly back from his loan at ranger and buy a right back to support sagna, with wishere, rosicky, arteta diaby and ramsey in attack,i want rvp to stay but if he refuse no one is irreplaceble, with this team, we‘ll challenge for the title next season

  • mike s says:

Squillaci was signed after the disastrous French show and behaviour in the World Cup 2010. So Wenger is able to look past national team behaviour. And he wanted to keep Nasri last season. It is a case of, has he got the skills and will Wenger pay the price for M’vila.

  • Spooky says:

Not sure we really repuire an attack midfielder and although Gourcuff is talented his injury record is a mile long.I actually see RVP being used as a No10 next season playing behind Giroud podolski out left Gervinho on the right.

Its a shame Songs positioning is so poor he has every attribute needed to be a world class DM but he is far too attacking.

The funny thing is everyone is talking about RVP but the big name player i think will leave who is also in the last year of his contract is a certain English right Winger.

  • GarytheRed says:

If RVP goes then we should go and buy an established world class striker because Giroud and Podolski are not the answer. Also wouldn’t touch M’Villa he’s an overrated trouble maker like Nasri. Javi Martinez would be ideal can play midfield or centre half and a much better player than M’Villa. Would also like to see another experienced keeper to challenge Szczesny who thinks he’s better than he is. Finally still would welcome Clint Dempsey to play the Rosicky role he’s a real class act.

  • Dylan says:

We’ve no need for more creative midfielders in our ranks. We’ve got Ramsey who has only just came through his first season back from that Shawcross tackle and the effort he put in shows that with a little hard work he could be as good as before he got injured. Wilshires coming back, Arteta’s about as is AOC who can play wing or CM. Not to mention Denilson who has impressed whilst on loan, Diaby if he stays fit, not to mention SONG who had the most assists of all our midfielders last season, Arshavin if he stays and plenty of reserves coming through- Chukes Aneke being the obvious choice or Lansbury. That’s 10 in the creative/defensive midfielder roles. We’ve got plenty of talent through our ranks we just need beef to back them up. Which is why a no nonsense tough tackiling DMF is the obvious choice here. I’d say if M’vila doesn’t work out we check out the status on MELO again. Thats the type of aggressive player we need . Just imagine his influence on Frimpong and Aneke or Coquelan.
The when thats done go get Jan Vertognen before the Spuds get him

  • Dempsey? Seriously? says:

Dempsey is not even close to Arsenal standard.
Benayoun is more than twice the player Dempsey is, did very well for us last season when called upon, is readily available and is still considered surplus to our requirements.

I think he’d struggle go make our 25 man squad, tbh.

  • Dan says:

Arsenal can’t afford to sign established world class players unless there is some special circumstance surrounding the deal, ie the player has fallen out with his manager/teammate, approaching the end of his contract, or has had other issues in the past with injury or loss of form. In a world where Andy Caroll is worth 35m quid, we have to gamble on players with problems to overcome, or have yet to prove themselves on that level.
Bergkamp, RVP, Henry, Overmars had all had their issues.
Pires, Freddy, Vieira, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny were all unproven.

Podolski’s record for Germany proves without a doubt that he is not only ‘world class’, but a top player at that level. Frankly I’m not sure what more you could realistically hope for. Giroud is probably the best striker we could attract and afford that would be willing to play second fiddle to RVP, which is likely.

  • odutayo says:

aw shld bring in mvilla, debuchy and vivialino.

  • Harley99 says:

Plz mr.wenger try nd buy quality defenders whose can improve our centre back like Debuchy.

  • John Odhiambo says:

We need to fix our defence once and for all. Our backline leaked around 49 goals, many than even spurs. If we can score and defend well then we can even clinch the title next season. We need a right fullback and one more experienced central defender. We should also get another keeper and conclude our business with M’vila capture.

  • mike1 says:

sell : arshavin , bendtner , chamack, squlaichi , Djourou , Daiby, Denilson, Ramsey, and loan out park
buy : Jan Vertonghen , Mathieu Debuchy , M Villa and bring back vela and ryo miacky
and it will be like this :
    Szczesny (Fabianski)
    Sagna(Debuchy) Koscielny(Mertesacker) Vermaelen(Vertonghen) Santos (gibbs)
    MVilla(song) Arteta (OX) Wilshare(Rosicky)
THE Walcott(Gervinho) RVP (Giroud) Podolski (Vela)

fripong and coquiline are special reserve and helpers

  • Mind magondo says:

Dos santos from totenhan is a great signing he is still young, i would like him to play together with wilshere. This 2 will be xavi and inesta . I think Mr Wenger must agree with me this time

  • oloye says:
