Why Didier Drogba will be a huge loss to the Premier League

So, it’s official. Didier Drogba will be leaving Chelsea this summer and you would imagine bring to an end his eight year stay in the Premier League.

Although not everyone’s cup of tea, this Ivorian powerhouse will no doubt be missed by the vast majority of fans as, on his day, he can be one of the best strikers in the world.

Some fans who may be pleased to see the back of him are Gunners fan. Drogba has been the scourge of Arsenal on so many occasions, netting a staggering 13 goals in 14 games against the North Londoners since joining in 2004.

Drogba has scored some fantastic goals, not only against Arsenal, with long range strikes against Everton and Bolton immediately springing to mind. Despite this Didier claims his greatest ever goal was THAT winning penalty to bring the Champions League to the English capital for the first time.

Yes Drogba has scored 100 Premier League goals but they are not all that will be missed. Although Chelsea fans will get to see more of Daniel Sturridge and Fernando Torres, they will know it is hard to replace a striker of the same power, physical presence and expert hold-up play as the Ivorian. Romelu Lukaku could be the long term replacement but he is currently unproven outside Belgium so can’t be expected to step in straight away.

The departure of Drogba has seemed inevitable for a while now but he showed he still has the class and quality to help win massive matches. He once again defined his “big-game player” tag with not only a winning penalty in the shootout against Bayern Munich last week, but also the 88th minute header which kept their European dreams alive. Add that to FA Cup semi final and final strikes against Tottenham and Liverpool respectively, man Blues fans would’ve hoped that his continued love affair with the West Londoners would extend for a little bit longer.

But it’s not to be and we as a country could be about to lose one of our leading talents to Chinese football, which seems like an incredible waste. A better move could be to moneybags PSG if Drogba really does fancy one last challenge to win major trophies.

Winning the Champions League is the perfect send off for such a loyal servant to the Premier League. Whilst some defenders will certainly be pleased to see him go, this could represent that beginning of the end of an era for Chelsea and the Premier League.

No lost at all. Drogba is the biggest cheat in the modern game, and him leaving the premier league can only be good for English soccer and the kids watching today, learning how to play. The 6 mins 42 seconds that Drogba spent feigning death in the first leg with Barcelona, was nothing short of disgusting to watch. Get lost Drogba, go cheat elsewhere!!
