No doubt every career has its highs and lows and Carlos Tevez certainly typifies that age old statement.

Following those extraordinary scenes in the Allianz arena back in September, there was much debate about whether or not Tevez would be seen dead in the sky blue colors of Manchester City. Roberto Mancini was certainly adamant that this in fact, would be the case and even when Tevez looked as though he’d been given a reprieve for his actions in Munich; he was pictured on a golf course in Buenos Aries.

This subsequently indicated that he had no intention of returning to the Etihad and this was seemingly a reoccurrence of an incident which inadvertently cost him his time at Corinthians.
However, the episode in Germany didn’t seem to hinder Mancini’s squad and their quest for glory, which saw City display the cohesive and intricate style of play we’re so used to being associated with the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal. The City contingent were then left contemplating whether or not a first league title in 44 years, could be attained without mister elusive himself; Carlos Tevez.

Throughout the course of the January Transfer Window, it seemed as though we had seen the last of Tevez in England, with Inter & AC Milan, amongst the clubs interested in securing the Argentinian’s signature. But due to the predictable wage demands of Tevez’ representatives, a deal away from England could not be finalized.

Then in March, having apologized to the club, Roberto Mancini and the fans, respectively. Tevez made a sensational return to first team action, assisting Samir Nasri’s winning goal in a crucial match at home to Chelsea. Having endured a turbulent season personally, the Argentinian didn’t look back. Having being dealt with, what had seemed a title blow away at Arsenal. Mancini took evasive action, which resulted in Tevez being paired upfront with his fellow compatriot Sergio Aguero away at Norwich. This proved to be the pinnacle moment in the season for Manchester City, as the Argentinian’s went on to create some sumptuous pieces of play in the coming games.

Inevitably the general consensus around the Etihad had changed, it seemed as though all had been forgotten and on the day of the 13th of May, in what was an incredible match at Eastland’s, truly fitting of what had already been a truly remarkable season, Manchester City had become Premier League Champions for the very first time. If that wasn’t enough for the jubilant City fans, on the morning of the tie with QPR, Tevez was quoted as saying he’d like to remain a City player and put pen-to-paper on a brand new contract.

So, what’s next for the controversial character?

In the past, Tevez has expressed his dismay at city of Manchester, weather being the key component of his argument. Perhaps signifying a return to his hometown and Corinthians may re-evaluate their interested in re-signing him.

It’s a catch 22, there is no doubt that Tevez’ rawness and tenacity has made him the prolific striker he is today, his composure in front of goal has, in the past, been compared to the illustrious figure of Diego Maradona, and like the Argentinian legend, controversy has followed him wherever he has gone. But given how Tevez is very outspoken and doesn’t hesitate to express his ego; reiterated by the scenes in Munich, it’s tough to call whether or not giving Tevez the extension on his contract and ultimately more money, would be a positive move for City in the coming future.

It might be beneficial for all parties involved to part ways in the next couple of years, the reason being that City will undoubtedly obtain a couple of world class player in the summer, to at least feel at home amidst Europe’s elite next year. Tevez’s experience in Europe may prove pivotal next season, to blend in the perhaps, less experienced players, but a lucrative long-term deal may not be on the horizon.

To say Tevez played an integral part of this title winning season would be rather portentous, but early indications suggest there might be light at the end of the tunnel for Carlos Tevez and Manchester City.
