The situation surrounding Manchester United’s Paul Pogba is becoming rather tiresome.  From the outside it seems extremely strange that the young Frenchman remains reluctant to sign a new contract at one of biggest clubs in the world.  Why would you want to throw away the opportunity to succeed Paul Scholes and become the lynch-pin at Old Trafford for the next decade? Ferguson obviously believes Pogba has that kind of ability as he continues to haggle with Pogba’s representatives and persuade the talented midfielder to stay put.  It seems though that Ferguson is fighting a lost cause as it appears inevitable that Pogba will move away from United distastefully to perhaps Juventus. The Italian giants have been linked the strongest with Pogba but maybe the youngster should look a little closer to home and perhaps a few more English clubs should be looking more closely at the Frenchman.

Amongst Manchester United’s rivals it is Chelsea who would perhaps provide Pogba with the most accommodating stage on which to showcase his talent.  Closest rivals Manchester City have plenty of back up in Pogba’s position, as do Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham but Chelsea seem to have room for the central midfielder.  The players Chelsea do have in there at the moment haven’t had the best of times this season coming under criticism from fans and pundits as they have fell short of the expectations upon them.  Ramires apart, the Chelsea midfield has at times failed to function especially under the previous regime.  At the forefront of the failure you have Frank Lampard, Raul Meireles and John Obi Mikel.

At the thirty three Lampard could well be moved on this summer as his lack of pace and fight seemed to have diminished spectacularly recently as age begins to catch up with Englishman.  Mikel has never quite established himself on Stamford Bridge and has struggled to win over the fans who have bemoaned his dawdling concentration and sometimes sluggish movements.  As for Meireles the jury is still very much out. Liverpool’s eagerness to sell the Portuguese man after just one season was met with great surprise but perhaps the move has been vindicated.  At times he seems like a passenger in the side as his quality doesn’t quite stack up against some of the players in the Chelsea line up; perhaps another season to prove himself is deserved.

By the end of the summer Chelsea could well have an opening in that midfield of theirs that needs filling.  Pogba would provide an extremely cheap option for Chelsea as he would be available on a free transfer.  Pogba is undeniably talented proven by Ferguson’s reluctance to let him go.  Perhaps we will see him lining up alongside the likes Torres, Cech and Cole next season.
