Time for a change of Captain at Spurs?

So Tottenham’s Scott Parker has been granted the dubious honour of the England Captaincy (albeit, perhaps only for one game) and this, for me, raises the question: If he’s afforded the responsibility at International level, should he be given the same chances at club level? If he’s considered worthy of leading the likes of Steven Gerrard, Joe Hart and Gareth Barry, perhaps he’s worthy of the Tottenham captaincy role? After all, Ledley King wont be around forever.

At the moment Michael Dawson seems to be the man given the responsibility when King isn’t available, but I feel that Parker is a better candidate.

Not that Dawson doesn’t deserve his due. He has been an excellent captain. He organises the back four, barks instructions and makes sure everybody knows their jobs.

But in terms of pure motivational value, surely Parker should be England’s captain?

When Scott Parker signed in the summer, I had no idea that he’d be as important as he has turned out to be. I thought he’d be slugging it out for a starting place in the team with Sandro and Tom Huddlestone (who have had injury problems) but he’s really made that position in the midfield his own.

Whilst King is an excellent player and Captain, I feel like the role is better suited to a defensive midfielder. Parker is always at the centre of the action and is always well placed to observe everything that’s happening throughout a game.

I can’t speak to how vocal Parker is, though he certainly leads by example. He has got the drive and desire one needs to lead a team and I’m sure that he has the respect of his teammates.

It’s true that Parker hasn’t been a Spurs player for very long (having joined the club in the summer) but I still think he’s the best candidate for the role.

The fact is, Scott Parker plays like a captain whether or not he’s granted the armband. Perhaps it’s time to make it official. It’s unclear how much longer Ledley King will be at the club, but at the very least I’d like to see Parker established as deputy captain. That’d give him time to grow into the role and learn the ropes from King.

Stuart Pearce, for all his faults had the foresight to award Parker for what has been a remarkable debut season with Spurs. Isn’t it time that Harry did the same?

Why Harry is still play’ing King i have no idea.He seldom trains with the team and is far to slow(granted due to his knee problem)It is time for him to hang up his boots and let one of the other centre backs take over.
The weak links in the Spurs team is right down the centre. King and the centre forward.Adebayor is all over the place and has little ball control.Spurs need a striker in the calibre of LEANDRO.
