After Johnson’s bender surely it’s time for a new Wolves captain?

|

In Wolves’ last six premier league matches the midlands side have conceded 19 goals which is unacceptable.

On the back of the Fulham hammering, Roger Johnson decided to go out and have a night on the juice which has cost him a hefty fine thought to be £50,000 which equates to two weeks wages. Reading this yesterday morning made me feel sick as our “so called” captain turned up to training Monday morning reeking of alcohol.

He has been dreadful for Wolves this season and should be setting an example for the rest of the squad in a very testing time for the club. As a fan it makes for tough reading as I’d give anything to play for the football club and when this kind of story comes to light it hurts. Although this is the wrong attitude to take on the matter I’d be much happier if he’d been proving his transfer fee and his 25k a week salary but he hasn’t at all.

Sources close to the club have also reported that he wants to quit the club after being dropped for the Newcastle game, if I was in charge I’d let him go and attempt to recoup what we paid.

With a huge 6-pointer against Blackburn at the weekend this story couldn’t have come out at a worse time and the future looks bleak for the old gold.

During Mick McCarthy’s reign I think his worse decision was to make new signing Roger Johnson captain. He has looked slow, sluggish and always does his talking off the pitch which really gets to the fans. Every week there’s a different article in the Express & Star where he claims “results will change”.

In my opinion Johnson should have been stripped of the captaincy after this and the armband given back to local lad Karl Henry. He’s had his critics this season but I will argue with any fan that we need a player in front of out back four that does the “nitty gritty”. He should have never lost the captaincy in my eyes and fans soon forget what a servant to the club this lad has been.
