Whether you’re in one of world football’s top Leagues or not, a scoring record of more than a goal every other game is likely to get you noticed by the top clubs in Europe. It’s little wonder then that the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and PSG are keeping tabs on Brazilian sensation Leandro Demiao. What is surprising, however is the fact that Tottenham seem to be in the driving seat for the Internacional star’s signature.

Whilst he’s an unknown quantity in terms of European football, he’s extremely highly rated in his home country. With his impressive goal scoring record too, you can’t help but feel that Tottenham’s scouts have done a good job with this one.

Spurs have long been interested in Damiao, but now it seems that interest has translated into something more concrete. In fact, speaking to Telefoot  Damiao insisted that Tottenham have made an offer for him:

“I am not aware of anything for an offer from Paris SG. I have had no contact with PSG or Leonardo [PSG’s sporting director]”

“All that I know is that Tottenham have made an offer.”

That’s pretty exciting news and yet we don’t know how much Tottenham have offered or whether Internacional are willing to sell. Coming straight from the horse’s mouth however, you’d think there was some truth to it.

Eyes will be training on Damiao as a result of this summer’s Copa Libertadores and it’s sensible of Tottenham to start the bidding now before his price gets inflated by any good performances.

With the future of Emmanuel Adebayor still uncertain it’s great to see Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy act so quickly to deal with problems before they arise. Contrast this news to the situation across the City at Arsenal. The Gunners lost their best players last summer and had nobody lined up to replace them. That’s clearly something that’s not going to happen at Spurs.

The fact that Tottenham are making bids for these kind of players just goes to show what a good position the club is in. Whilst their rivals move backwards, Spurs are looking forward.

All that remains now is for Spurs to wrap the deal up, make sure they keep their best players and enter next season even better than before. If this happened, who would bet against them winning the Premier League next time round?

When he signs in a THFC shirt i will be happy but only then…let’s not get too optimistic…like Hazard (the new one) it seems too good to be true.

  • Woodsy says:

We should have picked him up 6 months ago. If he’s really that good any number of clubs could offer better financial terms to club and player. I expect a bargain or for us to step out. More than £15m will be a challenge for us.

    • billsy says:

why would £15m be a challenge to us?

      • TonyRich says:

Because it is just short of our transfer record! When we signed Darren Bent, it was based on more than just promise – Bent was the highest scoring Englishman at the time. It did not work because the Keane Berba pairing was too good. When we bought Modric for that huge sum, he was a proven international. Leandro at 15m is 100% promise – so it is a punt. An expensive gamble.

    • anon says:

We paid £16M for Modric with a further £4M add ons. Whilst other clubs were wary whether he was suited to prem football.

    @Woody
No It’s not to much. Levy will give more if he thinks It’s a good deal or a great player. Levy has big plans and will give the club a push if needed.

  • BartSpur says:

Why shouldn’t we expect more top players to join us, we’re 3rd in the league & we’re only going to get better. Add Damiao, Hazard & Vertonghen to the squad we already have and we’re a realistic title contender next time round. COYS

  • Woodsy says:

For me much more than £15m and we’re getting into the territory of unaffordable wages.

I believe there’s money and agree Levy will find more if the right player comes along but we also have to be realistic. Damiao could cost between 15 and 30 mill, similarly Hazard could be 18-35, Vertonghen 10-16 (all complete guess work of course).

Levy will want sell on value and the top end of those prices means not much to make if/when they move on.

the reason we didnt get the brazilian 6 months ago was that his club wanted him for the s.america cup.we do need him.his wages at spurs will most probably be higher than his currant wage.ade ,nobody knows if he will be at spurs for the new season.also there is no proper cover for him if he gets injured.
