The transfer window may be closed but that hasn’t stopped the papers and online publications from continuing to feed the rumour mill and continuing to get fans all a froth over the potential of future signings. One of these rumours, if there’s any truth to it, ought to have Manchester United fans very excited.

TalkSPORT have claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson is keen on bringing Brazilian starlet Ganso to Old Trafford. The Santos attacking midfielder has come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of seasons and its little surprise that he has earned International acclaim and the interest of many of Europe’s top clubs.

Manchester United’s interest follows on from Santos club President Luis Alvaro Ribiero de Oliveira’s claims that Santos would be willing to sell Ganso for the right price. Speaking to Brazil radio station Radio Globo he said:

“Santos do not want unhappy players – If he wants to leave and a bid meets our valuation, he can leave. The player is eager to shine and that is something that is in both his interests and the club’s.If he plays well, certainly better offers will come in the middle of the year.”

Whilst most of the plaudits and foreign interest go to his Santos teammate Neymar, the fact that Ganso is such a well-known name even amongst European football fans is a testament to his ability. He’s also made 7 appearances for the Brazilian national team and is sure to have a huge history on the International stage.

As such, when he comes to make his move, whether it’s this summer or at a later date, there are sure to be plenty of interested parties. TalkSPORT claim that as well as United, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Barcelona and even Tottenham are interested in signing the 22-year-old midfielder.

United certainly have the money to tempt Santos to sell and Ganso may be keen to join up with the likes of Anderson, Fabio and Rafael Da Silva.

He’d also fill a gap in Fergie’s squad. All last summer United searched desperately for a midfielder to replace Paul Scholes. As it turned out the man who replaced Paul Scholes was… Paul Scholes, a temporary fix as Fergie attempted to figure out a long-term solution to his midfield problem. Well could Ganso be this man?

He certainly has the ability to make it in the Premier League and would surely be a big step up from Anderson, but whether United will be able to win his signature is another matter entirely.
