Why the mess at Chelsea isn’t Villas-Boas’ fault:

I understand that for any modern football fan, the easiest thing in the world is to get on your manager’s back and take him to task for every little action. But is Andre Villas-Boas really doing that bad a job?

The league table, home form and Tuesdays Champions League result would all point to the fact that AVB is doing a “terrible” job.

The only selection problems on the night were as follows: Ashley Cole should of  started for the first hour and Michael Essien should have started in place of Florent Malouda. Essien, Ramieres and Meireles would of been a tough central midfield and Sturridge and Mata would of caused havoc swapping sides with their pace and trickery. And yes, Didier Drogba should’ve started ahead of the misfiring Fernando Torres.

The biased experts who claim Frank Lampard should have played seem to have mislaid their senses. Why do the pundits insist on sticking by him? England have failed to get the best out of him and he looks lost in any system not designed to make him the star man.

So how much can AVB be blamed for this season? With a team of senior stars who consider themselves “untouchable” and completely anti-new ideas, all AVB is guilty of is a lack of man management skills. That said it is the “established” stars that he is struggling with.

But Cech hasn’t looked the same keeper for a few seasons now, Terry has been exposed for the sluggish defender he is, Lampard has been exposed for basically not really knowing what is going on around him and AVB has been lumbered with a £50m burden in Torres.

AVB’s record before Chelsea with “teams” speaks for itself. He has to stay and be given the chance to overhaul a squad which is not under-achieving. The two Manchester clubs, Tottenham, Arsenal and even Liverpool and Newcastle are better “teams”.

To succeed Chelsea need rid of Cech, Bosingwa, Malouda, Lampard, Terry and Torres and AVB needs time to make his team. Whether he’ll be given this time remains to be seen.

AVB should be sacked, and he will be sacked. I’m checking the NEWS every hour or so hoping to read the headline: AVB HAS BEEN SACKED!

I can almost totally agree with your views except that i also wish that Merieles & Drogba should follow suit while Torres should be exempted out of your exit list.
The problem we have at the club is certainly the same old problem of the “untouchables” putting up their game to unseat manager that does not share in their vision.
I guess it is high time Abramovich takes a sterner stance against these “cabals” that are at throes of destroying our beloved Chelsea

I full heartedly agree with ur views although their are some short commings that haven’t been mentioned. At some point the old players are going to have to part ways the the club. Weather AVB does it or any incoming future manager. I don’t see the free flowing footbal the owner so craves for just yet, maybe with some fresh faces in the new season this can happen. I’m hoping roman holds his nerve as well and keeps his faith in AVB
