Why Sneijder is STILL the right Man for United:

|

Make no doubt about it: Wesley Sneijder is one of the world’s top creative midfielders. His masterful performances at the 2010 World Cup saw Holland reach the final – only to be edged out by Spain. As the tournament came to a close, attention was drawn to rumours that Manchester United and, particularly, Sir Alex Ferguson were interested in the Inter Milan star. Sneijder was quick to deny rumours that a deal was in place, but refused to rule out a move away from the San Siro in the future. It is clear that he is a huge talent but United need to move soon as the player is starting to creep towards the end of his career. In addition, Internazionale’s asking price could provide a huge stumbling block for the Reds.

The phrase: “you can’t buy experience” is used very often with teams struggling with young players. You only need to take a glance at Arsenal; no trophies in 7 years and a serious lack of leaders and experience. United, however, have all these in abundance. With the re-introduction of Paul Scholes, United have added to their huge group of big-time stalwarts. If they decide to purchase Sneijder, they will be appending lots of Champions League experience to their ranks, which is essential for the Red Devils after being knocked out of the group stages this year. United will hope that he uses his experience and leadership skills to teach and nurture the younger players in the squad like Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Paul Pogba. Cleverley could certainly learn a lot from the Dutch maestro as they both play in similar positions.

Sneijder is known for his inept range of passing and thunderbolt of a right foot. He will bring goals from midfield as he has done for Ajax, Real Madrid and Inter, scoring 87 over his career so far.

United have been lacking goals from the midfield area this season and this is leading to them relying heavily on their in form strikers: Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck. However, you cannot dishearten the service these three goalscorers get whether it’s from out wide or through the middle and Sneijder will definitely add to United’s growing creative prowess. There is no doubt that he would add a cutting edge to their midfield, whether it’s playing alongside Scholes, Giggs, Carrick, Anderson or Cleverley.

Wherever Sneijder goes, winning always seems to follow him. He has won 3 domestic titles in 3 different countries which is a feat to be completed by only a handful of players. He has also played with three of the the most successful clubs in the history of the game so winning is in his blood. United are used to success and Sir Alex has created a winning mentality with whatever team he has produced during his tenure at Old Trafford so Sneijder would probably fit in perfectly with the side.

All this, of course, is subject to what the player and both clubs can agree. According to reports, his wage demands were the reason behind the deal collapsing last summer. United will be keen to strengthen in the next transfer window, whether or not they win the league. Moreover, the Red Devils want to become part of Europe’s elite once again and this will mean reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League next season at least.

They will also want to compete with local rivals Manchester City who have countless amounts of money at their disposal, so there’s no doubt that they will add to their squad. You would like to think that if United had purchased Sneijder during the last window then they would probably be slightly ahead of City at this stage of the season and hopefully into the Last 16 of the Champions League. So, do United need Sneijder? In my opinion, yes. But I’ll let you make up your own mind.

This article is about 2 years out of date. Sneijder has been out of form this season, injuries have taken their toll and he hasn’t played very often. He has been woeful for Inter in the Champions league this year. His transfer fee would be ridiculous and United and City would be much better off spending their money elsewhere at the moment

The Wesley Sneijder boat as long sailed.
    .
Some-one who clearly does not understand the financial predicament Manchester United are currently operating under.
    .
He was transfered from Real Madrid to Inter Milan for approx £12.00 Million pounds(two years younger than now)during their ‘firesale’.Manchester United if they had been interested would have secured the deal then.
    .
His scoring record out-with the Eridivse is one goal in 5 games. He has played during the seasons away from Ajax roughly 100 games for Inter Milan and Real Madrid.A track record of injuries at both high profile clubs.
Subbed on numerous occasions this season in SerieA.
    .
The ‘alledged asking transfer fee of £30 Million for a reputed 4 year contract(currently tied to Milan till the Summer of 2015)to Manchester United.Add in the reputed wage cost’s of £200 Thousand per week.Combined = £70 Million, for 4 years service.Sound good value?
Manchester United’s wage structure has been blown wide open of recent(you work out why) moving from a previous controlled 46% of turnover to an eye-watering
No realistic sell on value, there-after.He will be 32 years of age in the Summer of 2016.
    .
One superb World cup in South Africa, does not a World class player make.
