Welcome back to Manchester: Does Tevez deserve his second chance?

|

The real cause behind this saga seems to be Tevez’s aspiration to be the centre of attention, as expressed by BBC South American correspondent, Phil Vickery during the week. During his time at United, he experienced life as a substitute, fighting for his place against the preferred pairing of the time, Rooney and Berbatov, causing him to part ways with the club after his loan spell expired. However at City things were different.

As one of the most experienced and talented player at the club when the revolution began, Tevez enjoyed life in Blue for over 2 years, however, the fight for his place is back again, and once more, he is showing feelings of unpleasantness. With the international scene showing Messi and Aguero as Argentine favourites, Tevez seems to be losing his ‘God’ complex day in day out, causing him to want out, and find a club that can once more feed his desire to be worshipped, something that Manchester City fans will find it near impossible to do from now on, no matter how well he plays.

However, all optimists among you will perhaps see this as a good thing. Carlos Tevez has proven his worth in the Premier League countless times, with West Ham and the team within the red side of Manchester, as well as during the previous two seasons in sky blue. Although perhaps needing to gain match fitness, Tevez will still have the quality to perform to a high standard in the Premier League and Europa League, acting as a relative new signing for them this season.

With games getting tougher, and with the Europa league there for the winning, tired legs can lose trophies and with Carlos Tevez rejoining the other 3 world class strikers, it appears the already excellent strength in depth just became that little bit stronger.

At the age of 28, Tevez is still young enough to make an impact in football, on the pitch once more, and with Micah Richards offering his backing of the former skipper, it seems that ‘winning’ the title for City would come a long way in paying back the disgruntled spectators. I have no doubt that Tevez will keep his mouth shut for the rest of the season in order to avoid another dent in his reputation let alone his fortune, however nor do I doubt that this apology is offered and accepted with their metaphorical fingers well and truly crossed.

The fans will find it hard to forgive him for the shame he has brought to the club, and Tevez is not the type of character to simply forgive and forget the way he perceives he was treated. Therefore, the general consensus appears to be that this saga is not over by a long way, and the Argentine’s name will always be linked back to his that one cold night in Munich, where Carlos Tevez took on Manchester City Football Club, and put his entire career in jeopardy.

This has nothing to do with a second chance. For all you naive gobshites out there who need to grow up, this is pure politics. Tevez feels no remorse and does not have any respect for City and visa versa, however, he needs to get match fit both mentally and physically if he is to move on in the summer. Nobody will buy him for any decent amount of money otherwise, which does not suit City or Tevez. So, yes, play him when we need to, but it has nothing to do with second chances. He has proven in the past that he is a professional on the pitch (absolute opposite off it) and will give 100% when playing.
