Time for this man to step up as Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsey takes a well-deserved break?

It’s interesting to note that when Arsenal finally did manage to kick themselves into gear with their 7-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers, it was with Tomas Rosicky in the centre of midfield and not the Gunner’s usual suspect Aaron Ramsey. The young Welshman has been given a good deal of responsibility thus far this season and has often failed to fully exert his authority on games.

There’s any number of reasons as to why this is. He’s still young (just 21-years-old), has overcome a career threatening injury and has never been given this kind of responsibility before. There’s a good argument to the conclusion that this responsibility has come too soon. The sale of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri meant that somebody would have to step up and provide momentum in the Arsenal midfield, but it doesn’t seem Ramsey was fully ready.

At the moment he looks to be more of a 20-25 games per season player, but the sale of certain key Arsenal assets and Jack Wilshere’s injury-enforced absence has necessitated an overuse of the young Welshman. This in turn has placed Ramsey in Arsene Wenger’s fabled ‘red zone’ and has meant the Gunners have been unable to get the most out of him.

That’s not to say that I don’t rate Ramsey, just that I think too much has been expected of him too soon. Which is kind of the opposite of Rosicky’s situation at Arsenal: the 31-year-old has been with Arsenal since 2006 and by now we know exactly what to expect of him. He can create space for himself, pick out a pass and even put in a meaty challenge. What he can’t do however is score goals.

Despite this deficiency his recent performances have shown that he’s worthy of a place within the first team and that perhaps Wenger should have utilized him more often. Whilst he can’t be relied upon to grab goals he does appear to provide the Gunners with more drive and impetus – something they’ve lack on a number of occasions this season.

Deploying Rosicky provides Arsenal with more creativity and fluidity. He’s more than capable of releasing danger men like Theo Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain.For this reason, given the current state of Arsenal’s squad, he should be offered more opportunities.

It’s clear that Ramsey needs a rest and that Arsenal need some adaptability in this area. Whilst it’d be handy to be able to call on a Cesc Fabregas or a Samir Nasri, the Gunners will have to make do with what they’ve got. For the time being then it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of Tomas Rosicky.

  • Tomas says:

Rosicky is far more direct in midfield then Ramsey. He is also alot faster with the ball. Ramsey is trying to much fancy stuff. Rosicky main problem is that he is not scoring goals. Well Ramsey is not either. Many people argue that Ramsey is so hard working and runs so much during games. Maybe thats right but its not the quantanty of his runs that matter its the quality of them and thats where his immaturity is so obvious. He needs a break from the starting lineup if we want to make it to the top 4…

  • Roland C Rozario says:

Rosicky is definitely a more composed and matured ball-player than Ramsey in the middle of the park!

  • shantideva says:

ramsey is not a player dat deserves 1st team actions very often.he’s a good player, but too over confident.he doesnt release d ball in time 4 d striker 2 do d damage.rosicky is a gr8 player.if not 4 injury.he’s pacy, mor accurate in passin, releases d ball at d right time and he can also dribble 2 create chances.i think he deserves mor team appearances now dat he’s yrs is goin behind him

  • prince says:

rosicky is far better than aron ramsey, cos wen ever rosicky is with the ball he finds danger man lyk theo wallcoot or gerviho, but ramsey is only lazy with the ball, finds it hard to relase passes wen necessary

  • Kwena says:

Ramsey is slow at times and loves too many back passes. This implies he lacks creativity to manouver foward. Rosicky though not fit is much better at this time than Ramsey.

  • Spyder says:

Glad someone has come to observe that Ramsey should come second to Rosicky at last !!!!!

  • Docbrody says:

Here is a little known fact… Ramsey attempts heel kick passes 7,014% more often than any other Arsenal player. Most of which result in a loss of possession.

  • kidd says:

rosick used to score fantastic goals but eversince he came from long term injury the goals hav dried up.maybe if he can get a run of games under his belt he may rediscover his goalscoring touch nevertheless he is a better option than ramesy in the playmaker role.he has flawless technique ,he is quick and is more than capable of spliting defences with a quality thru pass or realising the wideman.he has lost his stamina a bit but i stil think he is the best we hav.my problem with ramesy is he gives the ball away cheaply too many times and sometimes he slows our attacks by dwelling to much on the ball allowing opponents time to regroup.he get in good positions though ,its a shame that he seam to hav lost his shooting boots also he coud b in double figures by now.a mid trio of arteta, song and coquelin is also interesting i think wenger shld try it especially in tough away matches.

  • Kunle says:

How i wish mr wenger is readin our views,we have another modric in arsenal in body of tomas rosicky,he has all d attributes modric has as a playmaker.ramsey has nt reached d level of been given d playmaker role in arsenal.he kills our attack by nt linkin d attackers.he loses ball at vital part of d field and those nt mind recovery d ball.for instance-d game against swansea,he caused d defeat.we lacked goals this season because ramsey lacked the vision and thinkin ability to give passes to our attackers.he is never found in the box when we engage in attackin and he takes unnecessarily shoots.

  • Decent says:

Ramsey is a good potential but I think Rosicky will do better as he usually delivers the ball right on time. Unlike Ramsey who tend to have forgoten his primary asignment by holdin unto d ball for rather longer than necessary.

  • meaner says:

I rate him just like another Denilson, so I call him Ramilson. I don believe he has potential, though he is only 21.

  • left footed says:

    Ramsey is good

  • Rufas says:

Ramsey’s style is different from Rosicky; where as the latter is a Modric type the former alludes to Gerrard style. Ramsey believes in winning matches single handedly; he needs time and we’ll soon learn he is a great player as well.

  • dim m says:

agree 100% Rambo is for the future. As a young player he needs to get dropped and given a rest when his performance starts falling. Rosicky or maybe even Benayoun should go in that role in front of Song and Arteta until Rambo rediscovers form and confidence.

  • alvares says:

Rosicky is the man.he gives the right tempo to the wide men.unlike Ramsey who is very slow and thus losing the ball to opponents.

  • EMERY says:

I just hope wenger will not change the squad. Ramsey should be on the bench, Rosicky is far better than him.

  • Rosicky should be the obvious choice

  • steevan says:

Rosick is far better then aaron..aaron doesnt creat or provide other players much option to score..but seeing rosick support to other players he is capable of adding cesc game play ..sorry to say ramsey is substitute player . we need strong creative player like cesc to compete for 4 trophy ..we know jack injury and cesc depart even wenger doesnt have more option this season ..hope some great creative player be in at summer..happy with coquiline performance.

  • topsy says:

Ramsey to me is not anywhere close to Rosicky either now or in future. Did anybody remember the younger days of rosicky? He together with flamini and hleb. Ramsey can not bench any of the trio whichever way. Let rosicky be the first choice and ramsey his understudy if he’s not too proud to think he has arrived. Another player that will thrive in that position is arshavin. Though only few arsenal fans want to hear his name mentioned again. But I strongly believe he will be better utilized in that position. He undoubtedly has the pass, awareness and pace to succeed in the play making role I believe.

  • okethi richard says:

I just wish wenger could read that we like ramsey but he over stays with the ball there4 passes dont get ourfrontmen at the right time
