No matter how many ways I assess Manchester United’s options both this season and beyond, one solution keeps popping up which I hope Sir Alex Ferguson will address in the summer.
OK, United will probably add another striker in the summer but the player I’m most eager to see arrive is Everton’s Jack Rodwell.
Rodwell has Anderson’s work rate, Fletcher’s ability to man mark and tackle and has Scholes’s knack of making late runs forward. Give him a platform and I’m sure he will step up and not only become United’s “Gattuso” or “Davids” but also an integral part of the England set up. That type of player that United have been crying out for since Roy Keane retired. United have always been known for gathering the best of British talent and Rodwell certainly falls into that category.
Adding Rodwell gives United an amazing squad. Andres Lindegaard has proven better than expected and David de Gea will be a great keeper if given time. Young Amos has had a few games as well. Chris Smalling, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Phil Jones, Patrice Evra, Evans and the da Silva brothers make up a decidedly strong defence, and I don’t think too much work needs to be done here.
One addition I would be interested in, if Harry Redknapp leaves Tottenham, would Kyle Walker consider a move to Old Trafford? He would vie for a start at right back and provide cover for Evra.
United’s wide options would include Antonio Valencia, Nani, Ashley Young and even Ryan Giggs (who recently signed a year’s extension to his contract) and Park with central midfield options of Darren Fletcher, Michael Carrick, Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Rodwell should any deal be forthcoming.
I’d keep Michael Owen on a rolling contract. He still has goals in him and he makes for a great fourth choice striker. Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck all provide a good goal threat but one thing Fergie loves is a striker and Ricky van Wolfswinkle has been mentioned (hopefully just on the basis of his great name).
What are your thoughts on this? Would Jack Rodwell be a good signing for Man United? Comment below.

If we made one signing i hope it would be Gotze
doubt we will get rodwell, he is overhyped, we always/more likely to get players who arent linked to utd by the media.
hope we get benatia, the guy is like vidic bt with a bit more flair – only downside.
forget rodwell we have more talented players in our youth and reserves.
hopefully bt the players i want at united are gotze, van wolfskein, hummel, javi garcia, kovacic, sneijder and pique hopefully. Bt all d best ggmu
i need to see jack rodwell and walker in man utd shirt.

i am all for new signings. rodwell is a good player. but i would se better players instead. kyle walker i hope comes. he is very good.
he can play both sides. and he can play wing. but united need one more central defender. and one creative offensiv midfield player. and united need to sell ” dead meat ” players like kuzcac, owen, berbatov and macheda. they are not good enough any more.
We don’t need a player like Jack Rudwel, we need a high rated player like Bosqeout and Fabrigaz in MU midfieled
Please, not Rodwell. He has not developed at all the last two seasons.
1. New contract for Pogba
2. Javi Martinez
3. Shinji Kagawa
4. Jordi Alba
Im sure Berbatov and Owen will be leaving, but I cant see we need another striker. We have Keane, King and other promising players looking to step up.
I think by now even Ferguson sees that having 2 strikers that never play, despite their huge wages, doesnt win us anything. I am sure they are perfect professionals, but that doesnt help the play on the pitch, does it?
And I totally disagree with those that wants to sell Evans. Hes been by far our most consitent defender this year. Forget last season and forget the game vs Man City – the guy has been brilliant!
Jones started bright, but he is still a junior. Evra I would like to be replaced, but he is still better than “buy of the century”: Jose Enrique. The only reason he get so much praise is because Liverpool havent had a good left back since the 80s. If you look at the overall contribution in the games Evra is still better. He has his defensive slip ups at times, but he is giving the team an option all the time up the wing – on contrary to Enrique.
I am sure we cant buy the three players I menioned, but if we make the midfield department stronger, we can play Young as a 2nd striker and the same with Nani. Therefore we dont need Berbatov and Owen. And many games we only play with one striker anyway…
