Can Arsenal still save their season?

Arsenal have had great memories at the San Siro, 5-1 against Inter Milan and 2-0 against AC Milan, however this week’s match will not be a fond memory and ultimately raises questions that need to be answered. For a while now, Arsenal have let slip in February. Last season the saw themselves exit all competitions during this month and with the league out of reach and the Champions League now seemingly over, all eyes turn to the FA Cup. If they leave this competition as well, then the season may as well be over.

What needs to change though? A lot of people question the management and say Arsene Wenger needs to go. My first question is, who on earth would replace him. Big names will be mentioned but realistically, they could well be out of reach. Pep Guardiola and David Moyes are two names I’ve heard mentioned, but I believe Guardiola will be the next Spain boss and that if Redknapp leaves Tottenham then Moyes will be the most likely candidate.

It’s a hard one to call, at only 17 years of age I don’t remember Arsenal without Wenger so of course that could cloud my judgement. No man is bigger than the club, but Arsenal need big signings. If they fail to reach the Champions League this season, Wenger may be the only reason that attracts the big names.

One thing is certain, money needs to be spent in Summer. They need to be a different class of player, the core of the team is in place but the deadwood players need to go. The first choice XI is strong, without injuries we have a good side. The problem is when injuries occur, we don’t have players capable enough to replace them. The club lacks squad depth, there’s no denying it.

Players like Arshavin, Rosicky, Djourou, Park, Fabianski are not capable of replacing the first team players, that’s without even naming all the players that aren’t good enough. Money needs to be made available by the board, a lot of signings need to be made. If the money isn’t made available then we’ve found our problem. If the board isn’t willing t drive the club forward, then the board needs to be driven out.

I’d love to see big name players coming in. it’s what we need. Podolski, Hazard, Gotze. Just one of those players would make me happy, I’d be ecstatic. One signing would not keep me happy though and they need to be earlier than they were made last year. Deadline day is too late to be making numerous signings, we need to make them as quickly as we possibly can so that the team has time to mould together before the season kicks off.

It all comes down to the FA Cup now in my eyes, a top four finish would be good, but personally I’d choose winning the FA Cup over a top four finish. It won’t be easy, but we can do it.

I think it is pretty clear you don’t really know what you are talking about when it comes to reasoning. You see things quite right, but when it comes to putting it together, it fails.

    1. Wenger had 6 summers to replace Vieira, and he still hasn’t done it. We haven’t had a real leader in the middle apart from Flamini’s few good months. WHY would he buy someone tomorrow?

    2. If he didn’t replace Cesc and Nasri, why would he buy big names just for the sake of it?

    3. If we don’t make the CL, where would that money come from?

    4. It is NOT only down to signings. Wenger has lost the dressing room! No spirit, no confidence, no concentration, no nothing.

    etc.

Press reports state the gunners are going to spend big and pay big salaries. I will believe it when Arsenal really get a top quality guy.
Until then it’s the same old story with Wenger saying the gunners were unlucky to lose.He maybe using stats to hide his shortcomings. You may outshoot the other team by a ratio of 8 to 1.Until the shots are converted to goals you are still second best.
