How did this ex-Newcastle star squander his talent so badly?

It has been reported that Kieron Dyer will miss the rest of the season after being injured in the first 5 minutes of his QPR debut.

Undoubtedly a talented player, Dyer will unquestionably go down as a player who did not fulfil his potential. He displayed blistering pace but all too often failed to make the most of the positions he created.

Dyer has only managed 31 games since he left Newcastle back in 2007, quite how we managed to get £6 million for a player who made Darren Anderton look like an unbreakable machine I will never know.

QPR gaffer, Neil Warnock commented that he was devastated by the blow and that he has, “never met a more determined pro in my career.”

Kieron obviously made a good impression in training because this wasn’t the impression I got of the player in his 8 seasons on Tyneside. He managed a meagre 23 goals and was a key player in undermining the legendary Sir Bobby. Maybe Warnock is just trying to cover up his mistake, why would you sign Kieron Dyer?

I wouldn’t be surprised if Dyer retired soon, surely he is too much of a gamble for any club to consider. He has averaged just 6 games a season for the past 5 years and many have come from the bench.

I can’t help but think that he wasted his wonderful talent. In my eyes, Dyer epitomised the modern football. He cared more for the money and the glamour rather than game. Judging from what Warnock said, perhaps up until it was too late.
