With Newcastle United quickly taking over Arsenal’s role as keen scouters of French talent, it appears that the Magpies may be making their move on a Gunners target.
Reports are suggesting that Arsene Wenger is prepared to make full use of his Ligue 1 contacts once again and will make a January move for Lille forward, Moussa Sow , but Alan Pardew is also thought to be lining up a bid.
Rumours were claiming that the Premier League side were launching a bid for the prolific hitman over the summer; however it seems the supposed deal never got past that stage.
That being said, a second venture could prove more fruitful as the Frenchman looks to pick up his second Lille asset in as many transfer windows after poaching winger Gervinho from the side in July.
However, the Gunners aren’t the only Premier League side interested in the Senegalese international, and these rivals have a strong French contingent of their own to rival the North London club.
Newcastle United made some moves of their own in the last transfer window and added more than one French-speaker to their ranks with Demba Ba, Yohan Cabaye, Gabriel Obertan, Sylvain Marveaux and Mehdi Abeid all becoming Magpies over the summer period.
With this in mind, coupled with the magnificent star that Newcastle have made to their season, the Tyneside club pose a major threat to any advances Arsenal thought may previously have gone unanswered.
Sow provides a very real goal threat, scoring 29 goals in 48 appearances for the French league champions last season, after completing a transfer from fellow Ligue 1 club, Rennes.
The striker is also within sights of both clubs at an estimated value of £15m.
Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke has promised fans that transfer funds will be available since his majority takeover of the Gunners in July and should still have money left from the sales of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
Newcastle fans will also be expecting money to be spent in the near future after the January sale of Andy Carroll brought in £35m and despite the fine form of Demba Ba, many supporters are known to be calling for a big-name striker; something Moussa Sow most definitely has the potential to be.
