According to Bolton manager Owen Coyle, the Wanderers may be forced into selling their in-demand centre-back Gary Cahill, if a ‘suitable offer’ is tabled in January.
Much was made over Arsenal’s chase of Cahill over the summer, but nothing transpired as Bolton affectively overpriced the 25-year-old Englishman, who is in the last year of his contract.
However, Coyle recently admitted that should a good offer be tabled for Cahill in January then he may consider selling him:
‘I would love to work with Gary Cahill every day of the week for as long as I could because he is a top player and a fantastic young man. Sometimes things are taken out of your grasp. We will wait and see what January bring.’
In all honesty, I am in two minds about whether Arsenal really need Cahill anymore. We seem to have improved defensively over the course of the season, but I still think we need some cover, and this is why I question whether we need Gary or not.
However, currently, I don’t think he would fit into the first-team as he would have done at the start of the new campaign.
