Is this man the ideal strike partner for Robin Van Persie?

Wenger came out last year and announced Fabregas would not, under any circumstances, be sold. We all know what happened next. He also said during the August transfer window that the rumours regarding Mikel Arteta joining Arsenal were untrue , yet on deadline day he signed. Does Wenger have a tactical ploy? Does he like to keep things secret? We don’t know for sure, however with Wenger announcing earlier this week that he is not looking for any players in January, does this mean there is new players coming to Arsenal?

I hope so. Rumours circling the internet mention many different names, some of which I can understand and others which are farfetched to say the least. The main issue at the moment is that captain Robin Van Persie is scoring the majority of the goals, with not much support in terms of names on the scoresheet I believe Wenger needs to draft in a strike partner for the Dutchman, who will also act as a replacement if a injury occurs yet again with the in form man.

Alexandre Pato & Karim Benzema have been mentioned, although I really can’t see Arsenal signing either of those two men. There has been one name thats grabbed my attention though, who I feel would be a great attention to the Arsenal line up: FC Koln’s Lukas Podolski.

Not the first name rolling off the tongue when you think of top name strikers across the globe, but certainly one within Arsenal’s price range and certainly not lacking ability.

The Polish born Germany international has hit 9 goals in 10 games in the Bundesliga this season, showing that he is capable of a goalscoring record that contends with Van Persie. The striker joined his current Cologne club after successful years with Bayern Munich. Podolski made his international debut in 2004 becoming the first second division player to represent Germany since 1975 and since then has played in every major tournament since then, scoring 43 goals in 91 appearances.

Personally, I am a huge admirer of Lukas Podolski and would welcome him to the Emirates with open arms. With Chamakh seeming to be on his way out, Arsenal will be short of attacking options. Therefore the transfer would make perfect sense to me, hopefully Wenger feels the same.

A partnership of Van Persie and Podolski could well form the best strike partneship in the Premier League and with Van Persie’s current contract only having 18 months remaining, this could be a transfer that persuades him that Arsenal are aiming for the levels he aspires to be at. Dare I say it? Podolski could be a ideal replacement for Van Persie if the Dutchman decides the grass is greener somewhere else.

Podolski is a sort of German version of the Hulk and a very under-rated player IMO ! He has one of the most lethal left foot strikes in worldfootball and is a direct player. Many of the players Arsenal are linked to such as Hulk, Hazzard, Benzema are never going to happen because of the price involved and I agree with this. How many of the big signings actually work out in the end ? Only Man City/R Madrid etc can afford one success out of three. I think if AFC can get either Remy or Podolski and one midfielder of true class we are doing well.
