How David Silva Evolved Into A Superstar

|

However with the Spanish midfield consisting of four playmakers fighting for, at most, two positions, Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas will always get the nod ahead of fourth in line Silva, arguably due to the chemistry formed at Barcelona. He has tried, and tried hard to impress for Spain, most recently gaining two goals and an assist against Scotland, yet it appears that there is nothing he can do to force his way in. Unfortunately, it seems it is now a waiting game, as Xavi or Iniesta’s retirement from international football cannot come soon enough for Silva’s Spanish dreams.

So, the best player in the world? I doubt it with Lionel Messi still alive and kicking, however a place on the Ballon d’Or shortlist was far from underserved. With the likes of Samuel Et’oo, who is now playing in the cold climates of Russia, or Wesley Snejder, who toe to toe with Silva would surely come second best, making the list ahead of him? Silva is a fine playmaker, who can wriggle out of tight corridors or pick a pass many wouldn’t see or even attempt. It is highly likely that, if not this season, success within the sky blue of a City shirt is on the horizon. However in a Spanish shirt it is a different story.

Although a constant member of the Spanish squad, he has started few of his 56 caps for Spain, and despite being in the best form of his playing career, the Spain squad that cannot find a place for Cesc Fabregas in their first team midfield, the likelihood of Silva becoming a first team regular seems unlikely until the current squad loses their ability to consistently dominate teams. David Silva, still at the age of just 25, has the best years ahead of him, allowing him to terrorise the premier league for many years to come.

The likelihood of Real Madrid to come calling on Manchester City’s door in the coming months is highly likely; however the chance of him leaving is far less. The blue side of Manchester seem to have brought out the best in David Silva, who has now become one of the top 10 players in the world. The best part for City fans is that Silva appears to appreciate what has been done for him, and in the form he is at the moment; he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world.

You obviously didn’t see Spain’s last match. David Silva played the Lionel Messi role with the rest of the Barcelona forwards/midfield. He was the best player, scoring two goals and making an assist for David Villa. Of the players I’ve watched this year only Messi rates above him.
