The first team picture at Old Trafford is a very crowded one.

With fierce competition for places all over the pitch big name players are having to fight for positions they may once have been certs for. In defence for example Sir Alex Ferguson last week told both Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic that they had best be on their toes with the likes of Smalling, Jones and Evans sniffing around and up front is a area where the battle for places is equally fierce.

Against Liverpool for example we saw Wayne Rooney and Javier Hernandez on the bench whilst Danny Welbeck started up front, the product of his hard work this season and with places so hard to come by Mame Biram Diouf believes a loan move may be the best option for him.

The Senegalese striker has been limited to reserve and Carling Cup appearances this season and is realistic about his chances in the first team as he told Sky Sports,

“It is not easy for me, but to be honest unless you are Messi or Ronaldo you are not going to get in the attack of Manchester United.

“Sometimes you have a winner of the Golden Ball (Owen) or last season’s top scorer (Berbatov) not even on the bench, in the last game the striker substitutes were: Rooney and Hernandez.

“I will keep on fighting and see, going on a loan to play regularly would benefit both parties.”

Surely it’s of benefit to club and player to seek a loan move? Or is it time to ship him off on a permanent basis? Let us know!
