Prior to Blackburn Rovers 4-2 victory over Arsenal at the weekend there was a fans protest against not only manager Steve Kean but also the clubs owners Venky’s. As well as this rumours still persist that the owners are looking to replace Kean as boss and are looking for a more high profile replacement.

It seems to be only a matter of time until Kean is replaced and speculation is growing as to who his successor will be, with Blackburn only just avoiding relegation last season and currently sitting 16th in the league table it’s been tough times for the Lancashire club.

One man who has been heavily linked with the position is former Manchester United striker and current Molde FK manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian is believed to be among a shortlist of candidates draw up by the Ewood Park club and the new owners see him as the ideal man to take the club forward.

Surely the former Old Trafford favourite would be mad to leave Molde, the club currently sit top of the league with a six point cushion and just seven games remaining.

Though perhaps more important to Solskjaer will be the fact the club are on target to win their first ever league championship and surely the chance to make history with his boyhood club is far more appealing than taking the first Premier League job that comes along.

Rovers are now a very different club to the one that won the Premier League title in 1995, then under the ownership of local favourite Jack Walker and with the likes of Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton at the club they were a major force in English football.

Since the death of owner Walker and the sale of the club to Venky’s in November 2010 it has very much been a period of transition. Attempts to secure players such as Ronaldinho and Raul have failed and claims of European football seem to be very wide of the mark.

Regardless of the turmoil at Rovers Solskjaer has made no secret of his desire to return to the Premier League one day as a manager and has even been quoted as saying he would love to take the top job at Old Trafford. He may see Rovers as an opportunity to get his foot into the English game in attempt to hone his skills.

Surely the more sensible option for him would be to remain at Molde, win the league and take the club into Europe and gain vital experience for his management CV. It would be a very risky move to accept a job at Rovers and be under immediate pressure from owners who expect instant success.

It is believed that the Norwegian has already moved to distance himself from the position as after all one of the reasons he returned to Norway was so his children could grow up in their native land and they’ve only been there for seven months.

For now Steve Kean is still the Blackburn manager but if the opportunity does arise and Solskjaer is offered a route back into the English game he should let this one pass and concentrate on delivering success with Molde and focus on the future.
