Those following their progress in La Liga will know that Real Madrid surprisingly lost all three points against Levante during their last outing. Since then, Mourinho or “Mou” as he is called in Spain has tried to explain why the team underperformed so much:
“When we were playing eleven men against eleven men, then we played well in the match, Casillas had hardly anything to do. We had two clear chances whilst their goalie was misplaced. The pitch was in bad condition and Levante played like they did during last years game for the first thirty minutes”
It is true that Levante deliberately didn’t water the pitch, fearing a quick passing game from Madrid but this kind of excuse is a silly one. It was Khedira (who got involved in a brawl) who took the team out of this match with his red card and this is absolutely indisputable. Of course simulating a injury is never good and it’s never a nice thing to see, whether it concerns Ángel di María of Real Madrid or Ballesteros of Levante. If I were the referee I would have sent both di María and Ballesteros out for simulating injuries. But in the end it was Khedira who got the red card.
Mourinho really needs to start finding new explanations other than the usual ones for his team’s problems. It’s the same old, same old from The Special One, at the moment:
“We did enough to win with 1-0. We went down to ten men and from there on the game was even. They scored their goal and the game seemed finished for us but we had a reaction in the ending minutes. We should have gotten a penalty too and that would have had a influence on the result”
Mou really needs to start finding a better excuse rather than the one where he jigsaws the referees all the time, it’s just not working. And since the club kicked Jorge Valdano a couple of months ago, Mourinho has become the one with the utmost responsibility for the way Real Madrid as a club should be ruled. The Portugese hates the critics and sure, perhaps there shouldn’t be critical voices now at this early stage of the season, but one must wonder, what happens if Mourinho fails to fulfil his intentions this season?
Remember, you are only short-lived in the Madrid hotseat if you dont win the big titles. Mourinho has already had his spats with the Spanish reporters and reporters from across the world. You can’t help but wish that he could turn this critical voice inward against himself and his team.
Real Madrid have always desired to be thought of as a gentlemen’s club. Mourinho’s image is in all ways the quite opposite.
