Is this potential deal the best move for Neymar’s future?

|

Reports in the spanish press today suggest that Neymar has signed a pre-contract with Real Madrid with the player joining the Los Merengues in January. This time around the negotiations seem to have been taken a further step but what does this signing (if done) mean for Real Madrid, and furthermore for Neymar himself?

First of all i think that Neymar should have chosen Barcelona instead, basically because Barcelona are a club where you get time to prove yourself. And with Neymar costing Real Madrid around 45M€ he will be under pressure from day one to perform consistently. In Barcelona you get more time to prove yourself as has been seen with a numerous of their signings. In Madrid Neymar might find himself at the worlds biggest club, but it will not be an easy move to make for the young star.

The contract however will be signed on Monday it is being said. But why would Real Madrid want to sign Neymar? In some ways it doesn’t make sense as the club already has Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuaín on its books. Could this mean that Higuaín will be on his way out once Neymar joins the team in January?

I also think that Florentino moved in with this signing (if done) just to stop Barcelona from signing him. There have also been further reports that Neymar might join in 2013, both to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

It does however seem a strange move to make, because Mourinho said a couple of weeks ago that the Real Madrid wouldn’t sign anyone if there had been no  injuries, which has not been the case. It remains to be seen though if the deal can be concluded this time around.

One man who was close to signing Neymar when the Brazilian was only 16 years old is Jorge Valdano, former sportschief for Real Madrid. What many people don’t know is that Valdano had almost signed a pre-contract with Neymar a couple of years ago but the deal then faltered because of Florentino Pérez, the same man who is now obsessed with signing him at any price.

Funny how things change!
