Atletico Madrid’s big €40 million signing Radamel Falcao, has wasted no time repaying the huge amount of money that the Spanish side forked out for his signature in the summer.

Falcao was signed as a direct replacement for Sergio Aguero, after the Argentine striker departed for Manchester City in a £38 million deal, and his explosive start could be making the Colchoneros fans forget about their former star. Falcao has scored 6 goals in his first 4 games for Atletico, including a hat-trick on his debut against Racing Santander last weekend.

The Colombian striker has picked up from where he left off last season at his previous club Porto, where he scored 38 goals in 42 games. He helped the club win an amazing treble, which also included him bagging 17 goals in their Europa League triumph. His goalscoring return at Porto over his two year spell at the club was truly remarkable, as he notched 72 goals in 87 matches.

Many people raised eyebrows at the €40 million Atletico Madrid paid for Falcao, because despite boasting a wonderful goalscoring record, he was competing in a mediocre Portuguese league. But Falcao himself, was desperate to test himself in a better league which is why he opted to leave Porto for Madrid.

Having watched the Colombian in action for Porto last season, it was quite clear to me that he was destined for a move to one of Europe’s major leagues. His movement in the box is terrific and he is excellent in the air, particularly from set plays. Falcao is also technically gifted with both feet and he is the most complete striker I have seen in a very long time.

He reminds me very much of  former Argentine striker Gabriel Batistuta in his prime. While there are those who would seriously question the €40 million price-tag, I am not surprised he was bought for that amount of money and if anything he may turn out to be a bargain come the end of the season.

There are players such as Fernando Torres and Andy Carroll in the Premier League who were bought for similar amounts of money and are struggling to justify their price-tags, but Falcao pledged to repay Atletico for their huge investment by scoring goals and it hasn’t taken him long to do just that
