Is there life for Atlético after Agüero and Forlán’s exits?

|

Radamel Falcao has made his first mark in a Atlético Madrid dress. He scored a hat-trick against Racing de Santander and this will probably spark life for the new colombian striker. Having been bought for a massive sum every Atlético Madrid fan is hoping that he can emulate the importance that Sergio Kün Agüero left behind himself, as well as Forlán. That, of course, is a big responsibility and the fans must well be aware of the pressure on his shoulders. But he seems keen to perform to the pleasure of the fans:

“I have great hope that I can give even more joy to the fans and help the team very much to reach their objectives. I work hard everyday in order to improve”

With the previous icons in Atlético Madrid all gone (Forlán, Agüero and even Torres) it is up to Falcao this season to shoot Atlético to “some kind of success”. But it’s hard to play for a club like Atlético as we all know, mainly because it´s a club who never reach the number one spot in the League. Their season’s are usually plagued by a vexing inconsistency that often sees them dropping points and ensures they can’t maintain a title challenge.

They have always had great strikers and if Atlético Madrid really are going to challenge for honours, then they will need more players like Falcao. After all, Falcao is a teamplayer as he already showed playing for Porto last season.

“I’m very happy with my three goals but also with the performance of the whole team. The performance from the whole team was very good and in the matches to come we´ll pick up points. Now i think our game was better than against Celtic. If i can contribute to the team with goals then it´s for the better and it will eventually happen but it´s not the most important thing”

It’s somewhat strange for a striker in a club like Atlético, probably because it is a team that easily can be challenging for honours. It’s a tall order to ask Falcao to provide Atlético with the firepower they need to bring success to the club. But it seems after this jornada that there is life even after Agüero in the redwhite shirt.
