How on earth will Chelsea get the best out of this man?

|

A huge headache for Chelsea will be the African cup of nations in January, losing both Drogba and Kalou and also Obi Mikel and, should he be fit, Michael Essien. All four players play for nations who are expected to reach the semi-finals at least, thus Chelsea expect to lose them for a lengthy period of time. During the tournament – which falls at such a crucial time in the premier league, where fixtures come thick and fast, AVB will have to make do with the remaining strikers, creating a major opportunity for Torres and also Sturridge to firmly bed themselves into the first team.

That aside, with the sheer amount of games Chelsea will be looking to play next year, expecting to be in the latter stages of all four major competitions, rotation will be key, with Drogba and Anelka now unlikely to be available for all the games, due to age and possible injuries. In order to preserve Chelsea’s somewhat aging squad for as long as possible, it is only to be expected that AVB will be required to rotate and rest players on more than one occasion next season.  All this bodes well for Torres’ chances at getting playing time, and a couple of goals early on in the season could do wonders for the player’s confidence, and really kick start his Chelsea career.

Should Torres fail to take the opportunities given to him and still be unable to score and contribute in a positive way come January, AVB will have some serious thinking to do – as Shevchenko learnt, even being a favourite of the billionaire owner does not keep you safe from the shop window if you fail to perform. Torres will be hoping that ‘Spaniard for Sale’ is not accompanying the other January sales offers this season.

With Drogba seemingly now happy to see out his time with us as a rotational squad member, it may work but you can’t help feeling that the straw of selection demand will break for one or the other; lets see. At the end of the day, if one is scoring regularly then the other can grumble in silence but must content himself with bit part status for the good of the club. With 4-3-3, yes there are places for Anelka, Kalou and the ‘we must use’ Sturridge but I’d still like to see Pato come in at the loss of Anelka or Kalou as I see him fitting well into a 4-3-3. Either way, we all know we require creativity above all right now so striker selection policy takes a back seat. Come on AVB; come on Chelsea evolve, rotate and win.

What Torres needs is proper service. The goal he scored last week was only because of a slip from Malouda, which Torres put away superbly. In the other pre season games nothing has been created for him. It’s alright saying Torres has not scored,
but he’s not going to if he get’s no chances.Last
season very little chances came his way,so AVB needs to get his brain working to make the best of Chelsea and Torres.
