Time to say Adios to this Arsenal stalwart:

The most long-winded and drawn out transfer saga not only of this summer, but for the last three to four years has been the Cesc Fabregas saga and not many football fans and gossip addicts can claim anything other than boredom at the sight of the ‘latest development.’

Every day another Barcelona Megastar is talking about Cesc’s ‘Barca DNA’ or how he’s struggling to find his best at Arsenal because he wants to leave, how ‘Barca are in his heart and mind’ and how he needs to return there to sit on the bench behind Xavi and Iniesta (funny how that never gets mentioned). He has made no secret that he wants to go to the Camp Nou throughout the years, and Arsenal fans have always known that the time would come and, with the central midfield talent lining up at Emirates stadium, perhaps that time is now.

The influence that this saga has had on the dressing room must be a negative and disruptive one, especially with Cesc being handed the captaincy and players not knowing if there captain is going to be there next week. As long as Barcelona can stump up £35million+ then I think it’s time to let him go.

Alex Song is a strong defensive midfielder, No one could have predicted the form of Wilshere and, without the injury problems, we would be saying the same about Aaron Ramsey. The sale of Cesc would also give Arsenal the opportunity to deploy Samir Nasri in a more central role where, in my opinion, he has excelled when given the opportunity and a couple of shrewd transfers with the money raised from the Fabregas sale would really strengthen an already strong midfield.

Do I want Arsenal to sell Cesc? No. He is a world class player, the captain and talisman of his team. But if a player has a burning desire to leave, the team has quality without him, the price is right and there is the opportunity to sign quality replacements, then the sale does make sense.

However, the talk of Nasri also departing should worry Arsenal fans. Arsenal could survive with the loss of one of their creative midfield playmakers, but to lose both at the same time could be catastrophic, especially with Arsene Wengers stubbornness and philosophy of refusing to sign established, quality replacements. If more young players with potential are bought in as replacements, Arsenal run the risk of becoming a feeder club, a hotbed for growing young talent, nurturing raw skill before shipping players out to Barcelona or another European giant and this is not where Arsenal fans want to be. They want to be signing world class players and competing with these teams.

The main concern is the lack of transfer activity coming into Arsenal. Wenger has admitted that the team needs strengthening and has claimed to have money, so why does it take forever to finalise any transfer to the club. Gervinho for example, has, reportedly, been on the verge of signing for the gunners for around 3 weeks and in that time rivals Manchester United have purchased one of the most exciting young goalkeepers in European football, another exciting, strong English centre back and an England international winger, all for big money. If Arsenal fail to make some progress in the transfer market then they run the risk of being left behind by, not only United, but Chelsea and the Nouveau Riche blue side of Manchester who are looking to strengthen their squads again after doing so in January.

No offence pal but r u on crack??? Nasri play the fabregas role??? The only match I can remember in the premier league last season where he was given that role was the opening game against Liverpool and nasri was shockingly clueless, we looked toothless all day long until rosicky came off the bench and even he managed 2 give nas a lesson or 2 on creative passing… Personally I think we’d have more success with denilson in that role…

    Fabregas STAY
    Nasri OUT

Do we want to see Cesc go? No. Do we accept it? Yes. Do we have a replacement? No, but nearly. In the form of Wilshire, Song, Ramsey, Frimpong, Diaby and Rosicky we have a strong midfield and that’s excluding Nasri, who I think will also be sold.

Can we do without Nasri? I think with Walcott, Arshavin, Gervinho, possibly Miyaichi, Gibbs, JET and Traore we have enough strength to cover the wide positions if he leaves.
