Should Chelsea meet Harry Redknapp’s evaluation for Luka Modric?

After dismissing our £22m offer for Luka Modric as derisory, Harry Redknapp also claims that the improved bid of £27m as a ‘pretty poor offer’ and says that even £30m wouldn’t be enough to tempt Tottenham to part with their playmaker.

Redknapp told Sky Sports News:

“I still think £27m is a pretty poor offer in my opinion for a player of that ability.

“It wouldn’t be anywhere near what I value him at if he was for sale, but he is not for sale.”

…which is a bit rich coming from a man that ‘insulted’ David Moyes with his £250,000 offer for Everton’s Phil Neville back in January.

When asked if a £30m offer would persuade the north London club to said, the 64-year-old said:

“I don’t think so. I honestly value him way in excess of that.”

Just how far are Chelsea willing to go on this? The player wants to leave, we want him, he claims that Daniel Levy failed to honour an agreement, but he seems unwilling to hand in a formal transfer request and I believe that the most recent offer for him is fair enough and there’s no way he’s worth £35-45m.

If Modric doesn’t hand in a transfer request and Spurs continue posturing for silly money, should we start looking elsewhere?

If Andy Carrol is worth £35m and Torres £50m, then Luka is easily worth £40-45m…

Pay up if you really want him or take a running jump, bunch of tap-up merchants that you are…

Don’t forget we paid £16m for him 3 years ago, so a bid of £22-27m is a joke!

  • steve says:

What rubbish all you chelski fans spout.
Not interested in selling means just that.
What about Jenas for 10 million?

  • Catcher says:

Well my little Chelsea dip shit, what part of ”we are not selling him to Chelsea” do you not understand.

  • Matty Glover says:

NOT FOR SALE!!! GET THE HINT CHELSKI!!!

  • Matty Glover says:

NOT FOR SALE!!! GET THE HINT CHELSKI!!!!

  • choppy says:

Spurs didnt start unsettling Neville when the bid was rejected and tell Everton that we think he’s worth only 250k so you should sell him to us !!!!!

  • Benspurs says:

Was torres worth 50 mil to Chelsea ? No. But that was his worth to ‘pool.

If Henderson is worth 20 mil then luka is worth 100 mil.

Notwithstanding all the “hes not for sale” coming from spurs I still expect this to be a done deal before the season starts. I would much rather sell him abroad for less money than Chelsea/ man city/ man utd would pay.

Reckon 35 mil plus sturridge will make the deal happen.

  • Gagsey says:

Why not stop then? Spurs dont want to sell him, he signed a contract hes got to honor it!

As my friend said “Well my little Chelsea dip shit, what part of ”we are not selling him to Chelsea” do you not understand.”

  • g50 says:

Start looking as he is not for sale!

  • edspur says:

What is Harry Redknapp’s “evaluation” of him then? I don’t think you mentioned a figure and nor has Harry mentioned one anywhere. I appreciate the question was aimed at your own supporters but I don’t see how you can expect them to answer your headline question.

  • Deogol says:

You start to wonder how this will affect Spurs’ ability to sign players. I mean, what decent international player isn’t looking at this and distancing himself from the idea of WHL? I think it has already ended poorly for Levy. . .and it will only get worse as it goes on. Take 30 million and try to fix the striker issue…that’s why you didn’t make the CL this year!

  • Mark says:

I have to say it’s time to look elsewhere.

  • George says:

Well it doesn’t really matter what your valuation of him is, does it. What part of 5yr contract, not wanting to sell do you not understand. Are we supposed to roll over and give you our best player because you want him, bollocks. If you really want him then you are going to have to pay through the nose, if not then jog on.

  • Indyfan says:

Chelsea, blessed with the support of Abramovich, still one of the richest men on the planet, have had a great run. But right now they are at an impasse – they have an aging club and an ineffective strike force (of course, Spurs can boast some ineffective strikers, too, but have a squad that looks stronger day by day than Chelsea).
Liverpool seem to have the knack of knowing when a player is in decline. They lost no time selling Keane back to Spurs, and now I think they knew it was the right time to wave goodbye to Torres, who needs something, someone to wake him up. Chelsea think Modric is the man to do it, and they are probably right. Trouble is, Spurs need him too and won’t let him go despite all the money Chelsea can lure him with.
As for playing for silverware, Modric should know that he has more chance of trophies with Spurs today than with Chelsea.
Harry’s evaluation of him is an appropriate one – he’s not the highly recommended player whom we bought for 16 million – he’s a full-fledged superstar worth as much as Schneider (for example) who was just bought by ManU for what, 45 million?
So once again Chelsea will look to Harry’s nephew big Frank to pull it all together for them in midfield, but I don’t think he’ll be able to do it any more.

  • Doc says:

Then if you don’t think he is worth more, don’t sign him. All the experts regarded him as the best midfielder in the Premier League, Henderson went for £20 million, Modric is twice the player he his and has 5 years remaining on his contract. To buy a ready made replacement would cost in excess of £30 million and he would then have to take time to adapt to our style.

Unless Chelsea offer £45 million I wouldn’t entertain negotiations and just turn down any transfer request.

If a player does not hand in a transfer request then the club have to pay his remaining wages, so you would need to pay us for these which pushes his price beyond the ridiculous offers you have made.

Neville is an old man with no time on his contract, hardly a comparison. I’m afraid you and Modric are being a little naive.

  • Big Mal says:

Getting more confused by Chelsea ‘fans’ every day. ‘Modric is not worth £35 – £40m’. Since when did a player’s worth matter to Abramovich. I am sure his ex wife wasn’t worth the £2,000,000,000 he gave her or the £500,000,000 he paid for his latest yacht. John Terry is not worth £200,000 a week (he’s absolutely useless, but that’s another story); Torres is not worth £50m (he’s worth about £15m top whack) etc. etc. So why do you keep writing articles about what players are worth. Tottenham have to budget and be careful how much they pay in transfers and wages and so does every club in the country apart from Chelsea and Manchester City. That’s because they ceased being ‘football clubs’ the day they became the play thing of rich foreigners who know nothing about football but want a new hobby. Of course Modric is not worth £40m, but get Roman to spend about 0.0001% of his wealth and give us £100m and you can have him.

  • southcoastyid says:

if chavski were serious about the deal, they should have conducted themselves with a tad more decorum and class, the derogetory 22 mill offer that they then pedalled publicly was an insult and levy was always going to react in the way he has, had it been behind closed doors and an offer that was “going rate” i think the whole episode would be done and dusted.
however, as has been said once or twice before, he’s not for sale.

    • George says:

There is something sinister behind the whole saga if you ask me, if the Russian Gangster wants a player he generally pays the market rate, what’s different now. The cynic in me thinks it’s about de-stabilising a close rival.

  • SIRLES says:

CHELSEA ARE LITERALLY: A SPENT FORCE.. IF MODRIC IS UNABLE TO RESETTLE AND PLAY WITH PRIDE AND OR PURPOSE FOR OUR CLUB, THEN HE SHOULD BE SHOT THROUGH A CANNON TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER..RUSSIAN MAFIA OR OTHERWISE. HE HAS ALREADY SUBVERTED THE STANDARDS BY HAVING OUR CLUB SPOKEN ABOUT *INTIMATELY) BY OUTSIDERS LIKE CHAVSKIS ON LINE

  • CHELSEA ARE WESTING THEIR TIME FOR MODRIC FOR GOD SECK.
LEAVE MODRIC TO STEAL IN TOTTENHAM THEY IS MANY PLAY OUTSIDE TO BUY, NOT ONLY MODRIC IS A PLAY FOR WORLD PLS.
IF TOTTENHAM MANAGER IS SAY THAT MODRIC IS NOT FORSELL BUT, LOOK AROUND AND FINE A PLAY.
