Andy Carroll must be somewhat frustrated with how his first half-season with Liverpool went. Besides a brace against Manchester City, Carroll didn’t contribute as much as he would have liked thanks to injury problems and all too often found himself sidelined. It’s clear that he’s keen to make amends however and that he’s chomping at the bit to make his mark at his new club next season. He’s been adhering to a strict training regime in a bid to regain his full fitness in time for the start of next season.

Liverpool’s ‘super doctor’ Peter Brukner has been overseeing his progress and has along with fitness coach Darren Burgess has designed a training regime geared not only towards his recovering his fitness, but also towards ensuring that he doesn’t pick up any additional niggling injuries that would further derail his Liverpool career.

Throughout his short stay at Liverpool questions have been raised over his attitude and his lifestyle choices. Now that his convalescence is over, it’s up to him to ensure that he gets all Liverpool fans back on his side.

The fact that he’s given his assent to being brought back early for pre-season training is a good sign. With a decent pre-season and an opportunity to gel with his team-mates, Carroll may well start next season firing on all cylinders. At the moment Andy Carroll doesn’t need to prove that he has the ability to make his mark at Liverpool, he merely needs to prove that he has the right attitude. The early signs are that he’s taking the right steps towards doing so.

The thought of an Andy Carroll at peak physical condition must be frightening for opposition defenders. Forget about Carroll’s past, he’s an incredibly talented young English footballer and if he starts producing the goods for Liverpool on a regular basis, he may well go on to be an Anfield great.

So here’s hoping that Carroll sticks to Dr Brukner and Darren Burgess’ training regime. Liverpool are currently riding a wave of good feeling thanks to Kenny Dalglish’s return and should Andy Carroll get on board, there’s no telling what they’ll be capable of next season.

“to get back on-side with the fans”, was he OFF-side? i think you’re being a little harsh on the lad! after such a lengthy injury lay-off, i think we can write off the half season he had with liverpool. I personally think he did ok considering his injury, the transfer fee and pressure that goes with it, a new team & environment and all at a very young age! give the guy a break, his liverpool career starts now and I for one am excited about it!
