Why Holding Down Nasri Is More Important To Arsenal Than Keeping Fabregas

|

The problems arise for Arsenal when team morale is considered if Nasri leaves. Wenger’s team are edging dangerously close to being labelled ‘serial chokers’. Having not won a trophy since 2005 some of the Arsenal players may see the club as beginning to decline instead of grow in strength. If Nasri leaves, and if he does it will be for a lot less than the player is actually worth due to his current contact situation, it won’t convey the philosophy that both Arsenal players and fans want. Paired with the speculated departure of Gael Clichy to Liverpool, we may begin to see the decline of Arsenal F.C. with many more players deciding to abandon the sinking ship.

Nasri seems at somewhat of a crossroads, career-wise, with some huge decisions to make in the coming weeks. If he stays at Arsenal then his weekly wage packet will dramatically increase. It is reported that he has demanded to become the highest paid Arsenal player which, if Fabregas does leave, seems reasonably fair if we consider his worth within the team.

However if he decides to leave London on a quest for silverware in Milan or Manchester the sheer, relentless success of Inter and United is sure to assure any player that at these clubs they will win trophies. This aspect may be the most important to Nasri, as to any player of his quality, in that he may be tiring of the lack of acquisition of such silverware at Arsenal and will want to be playing within a team that is continually winning things.

Arsenal must expect to lose Fabregas, and should take the money if a big offer comes their way, however keeping Nasri, and Clichy for that matter, may be more important to the Gunners survival as a top four Premiership club. Wenger’s position must also be questioned. How was any of this allowed to happen? Surely Nasri has been considered integral to Arsenal’s success for a while now.

He should have been tied down before the situation that is now upon us could ever have come about. Clichy too is a player bursting with talent. Losing these two, possibly to two of Arsenal’s biggest rivals, is a colossal step in the wrong direction. How Wenger handles this pressing situation will be fundamental to Arsenal F.C.’s success in future seasons, if he handles it badly, losing both players, then Arsenal could be left behind.
