Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti may not have the charisma of a certain Jose Mourinho but his record is something to behold. The Italian already has 2 European cups to his name but the question remains: has this manager got the tactical knowledge to dethrone Manchester United? On that matter, the jury is still out.
As the clock ticks down on Ancelotti’s Chelsea tenure there could very well be 50 million reasons to get rid of the manager. The purchase of Fernando Torres was meant to strike fear into opposition but the danger signs are down as the Spaniard has failed to hit form The talented Spaniard has been hot and cold for the last three seasons and certainly hasn’t lived up to his reputation. Torres appears to be given a start in certain games just because of who he is and certainly not down to recent ability. With frustrations growing at Stamford Bridge and a current lack of harmony between players a change could be the way forward.
This current crop at Chelsea are hardly getting any younger with players such as Lampard, Drogba and Anelka reaching their final years at the highest level. Chelsea must now be looking at new and younger names, like those of the young Brazilian Neymar.
The purchase of Torres for 50 million may go down as the biggest waste of money for a Premiership club. This could very well be the biggest season coming up for Torres as he may find himself out in the cold if he doesn’t get his act together quick and attempt to roll back the clock.
Roman Abramovich is going to need to dig deep in pre-season if he is to establish Chelsea as a force in English football again. Credit must be given as they did push United all the way but in the end United always rolled them over when it mattered. The last meeting between the two sides at Old Trafford ended 2-1 to United although the score didn’t reflect the way the match went. The London side were never really at the races when push came to shove, as United easily disposed of their rivals time and time again.
This is something that has to be rectified by bringing younger faces to Stamford Bridge and with Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku being linked with the club, times could be interesting if these players are purchased and maybe once again Chelsea can take to the throne as Champions of England.
