How Tottenham’s search for a striker could end with this man:

|

To say the least, Emmanuel Adebayor has had a rocky relationship with Tottenham fans. First up, there’s his Arsenal background, which does little to endear him to Spurs devotees. Then there’s the fact that Adebayor scored twice at the Bernabeu to help Real Madrid on their way to a 4-0 victory against Tottenham in the second leg of their Champion’s League clash. It was during this game that Adebayor reported his disappointment with the abuse he received from Tottenham’s fans.

That night the boys from North London sang the following chant: “Your dad washes elephants, your mother’s a whore”. Adebayor didn’t take kindly to the chants, labelling them racist and whilst the racial politics behind them are somewhat murky, they certainly did little to make the Togo striker feel like he’d be welcome at Tottenham.

Sometime afterwards Adebayor told Football Focus: I heard about the chants and I felt so bad because before joining Real Madrid, my first choice was Tottenham”. Now that the possibility of Adebayor’s loan move with Madrid being made into a permanent one seems unlikely and that there’s every chance Manchester City will look to cut ties with the striker, could a move to Spurs be on the cards once more?

With Tottenham’s strike-force stuttering and stopping this season Adebayor could be just the tonic and may well be the impetus for a top four finish next season. He clearly has talent and whilst some may have reservations about his background and his temperament I believe that these reservations should be set to the side.

Whilst some Tottenham fans may not take too kindly to him thanks to his Arsenal background, this didn’t stop them accepting William Gallas into the fold. He may also have patched up his relationship with Spurs fans when he ran the length of the pitch to celebrate his goal for City against the Gunners. All Adebayor would have to do to get the fans fully on side would be to work hard and grab a couple of goals in his first few weeks at the club.

Didn’t William Gallas also come to Spurs with a reputation for creating trouble? Perhaps Adebayor and Tottenham would be a better fit than most people care to imagine. He’s a man with plenty of Premier League experience and he’s a natural goal scorer. What’s more, he’s already stated that he’d consider a move to Tottenham: “I would go there and sign for them.”

Whether or not Tottenham can afford to pick up Adebayor’s wage packet remains to be seen. Regardless, he’s a striker with the potential to deliver the goods for Spurs next season and is well worth considering.

His 1st choice before Madrid was Tottenham??
Was that inbetween his AC Milan first choice moment or the Barca dream move moment, whilst he was still milking Man City for 170,000 a week??
Be under no illusions, Adebaywhore is all about self promotion and mercenary greed. He has and will continue to cause disruption wherever he goes. Great striker, absolute dire attitude.
    Just what Spurs need….

the more i hear about this the more it interests me, he does have one quality that would allow him to be right at home with the spurs faithful, a dislike of the gunners! and i dont think anyone can deny that if he is up for it there are few better all round strikers in the game! if hes willing to take a pay cut and is going to play with the same fire in his belly that Gallas has brought then i will welcome him with open arms, top quality strikers are too rare a beast (especially ones who are proven in the prem!) for us to turn our noses up at one that wants to join us! my problem is his nack of scoring 5 goals in his first 5 games then resting on his laurels & picking up the pay checks for the rest of the season! i get the feeling the guy just wants to feel wanted & harry will definately do that, if he signs on a 60k a week contract as proof its not all about the money, if he keeps his head down & concentrates on doing what he does best, scoring goals, then he might just find the spurs fans opinions of him do a u-turn & ala gallas he could become a bit of a fan favourite!

thats a hell of a lot of Ifs though!

Will NEVER happen. There are numerous reasons, the top two however are his wages, and his parent club. Our pay structure will not account for £170k no matter how many fringe players we release (break the mould once and your in trouble). The second point being Man city will not be in any mood to strengthen Spurs. We maybe in their rear view mirror now, and a £100mil later maybe not that close, but are they going to take that risk?

exactly. He is a mercenary, and a damn good one. He will never be a yiddo, but he is what we need if we want to become a team that win stuff.

Adebayor & Drogba, would be an interesting pair up front for next season?

Like it or not, he’s just what we need.
Will City sell him to us? probably not.
Drogba? love it but he’s certain to go back to Marseille…
