Why it’s difficult being a chant-starter in the Premier League [Video Blog]

|

Week in and week out we hear fans sing and chant at the top of their voices in Premier League games. It takes a brave man or woman to stand-up in a crowd of football fans, throw their voice and try and get a chant started. There’s always that fear of failure – the lingering thought in the back of your mind: what if nobody picks it up? There’s nothing quite so lonely as being the sole purveyor of a chant in the middle of a crowd of fans. And yet, thousands of fans around the country aren’t afraid to initiate a chant. That’s what Jonathan Kydd tackles in this week’s video blog – the highs and lows of being a chant starter. This week Jonathan discusses:

• ‘The terror’ or fear of failure that surrounds chant-starting.
• How to cope with your chant getting ignored.
• The body-language involved in getting a chant-started.
• How pesky on-pitch action can do away with the momentum of your chant.

To those who aren’t afraid to be the initiator, we salute you.
