[Video] Manchester United starlet has talent to burn

|

18 year old Ravel Morrison is a Manchester United prodigy with a dark pastManchester United have any number of prodigious youngsters on their books, but this one you feel, is someone a bit different – a bit special. Ravel Morrison is quickly becoming, at just 18-years-old, United’s brightest young talent. For evidence that this boy has potential and the ability to fulfil it, look no further than the recent FA Youth Cup tie between United and Liverpool.

You will, no doubt have heard about it already. It was a bizarre game. United came back from 2-0 down to win 3-2. In the process of this turnaround four players were sent off, leaving only nine men on each side. Morrison grabbed two goals for himself (one of them being a rather tasty volley) in a performance that left fans and pundits alike positively foaming at the mouth with adulation.

The icing on the cake for United fans: after Morrison scored, he ran down in front of the Liverpool fans and kissed his badge.

Morrison may have only made one first-team appearance to date (as a substitute for Ji-Sung Park in a League Cup tie against Wolves) but it’s performances like this that will spread his name to the masses and put him in contention for more first-team action. But don’t take my word for it, click play on the video below to see the young lad in action.

Finally, I should note, that it’s rather nice to see that Morrison has begun to make headlines for the right reasons. Up until now he was best known for his off-the-pitch exploits. Reports suggest not only that Morrison had been involved in a mugging, but that, furthermore, he had attempted to intimidate a witness of this crime at knifepoint. He was threatened with a spell in detention (which would have necessitated the end of his United career) but escaped with a 12-month referral order. Any further bad-behaviour could see the youngster behind bars.

With that in mind, let’s hope that Ravel Morrison continues to be a talking point for his ability on the pitch and not for his proclivities off of it.

Why do all of England’s bright young things all have a criminal record of some sort?
