[Video Blog] Jonathan Kydd’s solution to the reffing problem

|

Mark Clattenburg is one of many referees beleagured by fans, managers and the pressWho’d be a referee? It’s one of a small group of professions where-in the worse you do your job, the better known you become. A bad day at the office and you’re splashed all over the backside of the papers the next morning. Of course, the increase in notoriety comes complete with a healthy dose of public hatred. With all the responsibility heaped upon their shoulders, it’s some wonder that referees haven’t been afforded more resources to do their job better. So says Jonathan Kydd, in the video blog below regarding the use, mis-use and abuse of referees in the Premier League and Europe. Some of the topics Jonathan tackles this week are:

  • Why it’s not good enough to simply accept that “ludicrous decisions” are part and parcel of the game.
  • Why we react so strongly to contentious decisions.
  • What exactly is the role of the fourth official and how can we build upon it?
  • Why ‘linespersons’ have to be given more responsibility à la cricket and rugby.
  • How we should go about formulated an ‘Elite team’ of referees.

  • Jeah says:

Actually talking a lot of sense. The fourth official is a waste of an official right now.

  • Gunnerz says:

The fact that refs don’t have video technology available to them is just bizarre. I wonder how long those in charge are going to keep prolonging the inevitable.
    Time to revolutionise.
