Is this £18m man the solution to City’s problems down the left? [Video]

|

Manuel Vargas is a target for Manchester CityIf you believe the reports emanating from talkSPORT, it seems that Manchester City are after Fiorentina’s part-time winger and part-time left-back Manuel Vargas. As well as Manchester City Vargas has found himself linked to Real Madrid and Barcelona. Any attempt that City make to bring him to Eastlands will face fierce competition. He is a sought after prospect and the video below is more than a little revealing as to why.

Vargas moved to Europe at 23-years-old to play for Serie A side Catania. It was in no small part thanks to his performances on the left that Catania managed to avoid relegation twice with him in their ranks. It was around this time that Vargas was first linked with Real Madrid although a move was never engineered and Manuel was instead sent off to Fiorentina where he currently plies his trade.

Despite looking a little nervous in the left full-back position, his pace and directness eventually began to garner the Peruvian a great deal of praise. He is, without doubt a fantastic player with the ball at his feet – the kind of player that defenders hate having to deal with. That he’s not afraid to get a little physical from time-to-time is another positive attribute. His versatility down the left may be prove to be an attractive quality for Roberto Mancini come the summer.

Indeed, some media outlets have hinted that the discussions taking place between Fiorentina and Manchester City are ongoing and that the Italian club are thought to be willing accept a fee of around £18m for the Peruvian’s services.

Given that City have been accused of lacking pace down the wings this season, I see Vargas as the perfect signing. He has both pace and ability by the bucket-load. Don’t believe me? Check out the video below:
