Such was the furore happening yesterday, we were led to believe so many different occurences. One of those was that Andy Carroll handed in a transfer request to push through his eventual move to Liverpool.
However, having slept on it, it appears that Carroll did not in fact want to leave his hometown club and was forced out of the door.
Carroll had only just signed a new 5-year contract after his successful season in the Championship which saw him help his side win the second tier of English football and reclaim a place among the elite of the country’s footballing institutions.
But every player has their price and to avoid the wrath of the Toon Army, Mike Ashley suggested his star-man hand in a bogus transfer request to ease his PR.
Carroll reveals all in a text-message exchange (which was picked up from a fansite and can be read here: http://www.fansonline.net/newcastleunited/article.php?id=599).
Without being accused of naivity, this personal message – free from media interest and PR – show that Carroll did not instigate the transfer to Anfield like the Newcastle United hierarchy will have you believe.
Carrolll issued a statement today which was similar and it had a similar tone to it. Speaking to local paper The Chronicle, he said:
“I was in talks about a new contract and talking to the gaffer about that. He told me that they are now not going to give me a contract. That was as soon as the offer of £30m came in. So I asked why (I wasn’t getting a new contract) and he said his hands were tied. He said it wasn’t up to him. Then a £35m bid got accepted. And then I was allowed to talk to Liverpool. The owner then made it clear to me that I was not wanted at the club. Saying that his own helicopter is waiting for me to go down to talk to them. So being shown I’m not wanted I said OK I will talk to them. Then suddenly the bid was rejected. And then Derek asked me to hand in a transfer request. So I was pushed into a corner and had no choice. I wasn’t wanted by them and they made it clear they wanted the money. Then I flew down in his (Ashley’s) helicopter. I didn’t want to leave. I’m gutted that I wasn’t wanted at my home team after everything I’ve done and progress I’ve made. I didn’t want to leave at all. Make sure they know I didn’t want to leave. The players, staff and fans were fantastic.”
Meanwhile, Pardew today told the Chronicle:
“There was an offer refused in the morning and then we received a second improved offer. Myself, Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias were having a discussion when Andy Carroll poked his head around the door and said he wanted to see me. I had the conversation with Andy. He said he wanted a new contract now that would make him the highest paid player at the club. This from a guy who had signed a new deal just a few months ago. I asked him what he wanted but he didn’t reply.”
The already unpopular Ashley’s days on Tyneside look numbered.
What a load of b@ll@cks, he tried to blackmail the club into increasing his newly agreed contract, Newcastle wouldnt play ball and he ran to the scousers, a liar and a traitor.
As for the so called fans who are forever bleating about conspiracy theories, time you all buggered off and support someone else, your not fans your just pathetic, grow up, Newcastle is now run well and on a good footing for the future.
