Argentinian back on Chelsea radar?

|

Written by Anthony Williams

Former Chelsea target Sergio Aguero has recently signed a new contract with Atletico Madrid, which will keep him at the Vincente Calderon until 2014, but could the forward be back on Roman Abramovich’s radar?

The Argentine’s new deal sees his release clause drop from £51m to £38m and many believe that this could lead the player open to a summer exit, with Chelsea remaining one of the most likely suitors for the player’s signature.

But some quarters of the media are even reporting that the Blues may make a move during the current transfer window in an attempt to stop the current decline at Stamford Bridge and reports suggest that Abramovich may be worried that the club with finish the season outside of the top four.

For so long many of the Chelsea faithful both wanted and was sure that they were going to sign Aguero, but the club would not bow to the Spanish outfit’s demands and hefty £51m release clause.

Now that the release fee had dropped significantly by £13m, coud it be the right time to bid for the highly-rated striker?

The 22-year-old could be just what Carlo Ancelotti’s side needs at the moment as they are struggling to carve out and finish goal-scoring opportunities. They could also use some youthful exuberance in their forward line, which is currently led by thirty-somethings Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda.

Kun Aguero has been in fine form this season and has scored 14 goals in 22 games for Atletico, as well as making five assists.

The Premier League champions are currently suffering their worst run in 14 years and are currently nine points behind the league leaders Manchester United, who have played one game fewer than Chelsea.

Could Aguero be the man to help reverse the Blues’ decline?
