Roman is getting the chequebook out, but who should we buy?

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is set to get his chequebook out and back his manager Carlo Ancelotti in the January transfer window, if recent reports are anything to go by.

But who do the fans think we should be signing (if anyone)? Where do we need to strengthen most?

The Blues have struggled a lot when their leading lights John Terry, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba have been suffering injuries. There are no adequate replacements amongst the Chelsea ranks for the aforementioned and a glimpse into a future without their ageing stars has been a bleak image.

Perhaps the most pressing concern is the defence as Alex is not likely to come back into the fray until February, so a centre back could be a good option and we have been linked to plenty, but who’s the best option out of Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Thiago Silva?

Chelsea may also wish to invest in a new striker who can take some of the burden off Didier Drogba and company, who have been struggling in the goal scoring department lately. Hopefully Lampard’s return will help resolve this to an extent, but it can’t hurt to bring in some extra firepower like the names mentioned in a previous article.

There are also no guarantees over the fitness of Lampard and when he’s been out, or Michael Essien, we have lacked drive in the midfield. Some fans have been calling for a new playmaker to be purchased and Javier Pastore or Alan Dzagoev would be my personal preferences, who would you go for?

There are plenty of options out there, but good deals are not often struck during this time of year, so Chelsea will have to be a little wiser in the transfer market than they have been over the past three seasons.
