Drogba Fires Warning Shot to Defenders

Written by Anthony Williams

Didier Drogba has fired a warning shot to Premier League defenders by saying that he is improving with age and there’s a lot more yet to come from the Chelsea striker.

The 32-year-old has had a dip in form recently after he contracted malaria and has been unfortunate enough to have key team mates such as John Terry and Frank Lampard dropping like flies around him, but the appetite is definitely there and I’m hoping Drogba will step it up again soon…we need him to.

Drogba believes that as a relatively late bloomer in the game it has meant that his hunger for success has not diminished with age.

He said:

“I think I’m getting better with age. I started very late at the highest level as I was 25 when I played one season for Marseille and then I came here.

“So I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but I feel I’m improving every season.”

“And, because I started late, I’m not tired or fed up with playing.

“I don’t know when I’m going to stop because I love what I’m doing.”

He has come under a little bit of criticism during Chelsea’s latest blip in form and many argue that perhaps he is not the ideal character to take the skipper’s armband, as he projects something of a moody demeanour and I myself do not think your main hitman should bear the burden of captaincy.

Fans will hope that they start to see more of the Drogba they saw last season when he scored an astonishing 37 goals in all competitions, with a great amount of assists also and deserved to win the ‘PFA Player of the Year’ award ahead of Wayne Rooney as I have previously written about here. It’ll be quite an ask for him to repeat last season’s heroics during this term, but I believe he will still score a fair amount of goals to add to the seven he already has.

Drogba’s ambitions remain high, as does the rest of the squad despite the media vitriol surrounding our ‘crisis’ and uncertainty over our manager’s position at the club.

“First of all, it is for everybody to be in good health because with health you can try to achieve everything you want.

“Then I want to see everybody at Chelsea celebrating the Champions League at Wembley.”

Let’s hope our Drog can get back amongst the goals as soon as possible and preferably before his customary bullying of Arsenal defenders – which is due on the 27th of this month.

A video of all 37 of Didier Drogba’s goals from the 2009/2010 season. Enjoy.
