Leeds Under-23 manager Carlos Corberan has committed his future to working at Thorp Arch under Marcelo Bielsa, according to Spanish outlet Radio Leon.
They claim that despite interest from Corberan, the talented coach has decided to stay where he is and continue the highly successful project with the Leeds youth players.
This news might not be met with as much celebration as the Marcelo Bielsa contract extension, but it’s a massive boost for the club.
Under Corberan the Under-23s had a standout season, winning the PDL national title. But it was the links between the Under-23s and the senior team, managed by Bielsa, that has proved so exciting.
Bielsa isn’t going to stay at Leeds forever and we see Corberan as the natural successor to the crown. If he does become the next Leeds manager then this is the moment fans should look back to.
What it means in the short-term is that the Under-23s have got a bright future and fans can expect to see even more talented youngsters making the leap up to the first team .
Corberan praised Bielsa for his work with the Under-23s and credits the Argentine with providing the spark for the youngsters.
He said , as quoted on Leeds.Live, “Marcelo arrived here and the connection with the first team, for the 23s, have a connection. Every day they are involved with his demands. Every day they are training with high intensity.”
It proves he’s a humble man as well as a talented coach but Corberan deserves high praise for his part in players like Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton making the leap up.
And the news that he’s committed his future to Thorp Arch should get Leeds fans singing from the rooftops.
