Image for Celtic: Postecoglou would have backed the signing of Mooy

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou would have given his firm backing to the club’s hierarchy to get the deal for Aaron Mooy over the line.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about Celtic’s transfer business this summer.

Mooy, who most recently played for Shanghai Port in China, joined the Glasgow giants on a two-year deal this summer, reuniting the midfielder with his former manager, who he would have worked with during Postecoglou’s time at the helm of the Australian national team.

The 31-year-old is best known for his spells at Huddersfield Town and Brighton and Hove Albion between 2016-2020, before a spell in China led to the midfielder’s eventual arrival at Celtic Park this summer.

And O’Rourke believes that Postecoglou would have given his full backing to the Celtic board to get this deal over the line.

“Once he knew that Aaron Mooy was available, I’m sure Postecoglou would have been there, giving his firm backing to the Celtic hierarchy to try and get this deal done.

“We all know Postecoglou has had success with players that he’s worked with previously, which is already shown in the players that he’s brought to Celtic in the last year or so.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We believe Celtic fans will be delighted to hear that Postecoglou was eager to push the deal over the line, as it suggests that the Australian’s say in transfers at the club remains, which has worked thus far for the Premiership side.

And we think that Mooy will be an excellent signing for the club and will be able to fill the hole that has been vacated by the departures of Nir Bitton and Tom Rogic this summer.

Mooy has the potential to be a regular starter at Celtic Park this season, and his experience will be invaluable in Celtic’s bid to retain the Premiership title this season.
