Journalist Anthony Joseph has claimed that there are no issues holding up the permanent deal for Jota at Celtic being completed.

There have been recent reports that Celtic have reached an agreement with Benfica over the permanent signing of Jota ahead of next season for £6m after the Portuguese forward spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan with the Scottish Premiership club.

Jota impressed whilst on loan with Celtic this past term, as he netted 13 times and registered 14 assists in 40 games in all competitions for the Hoops, which has led to Ange Postecoglou wanting to sign him permanently for next season.

With Celtic reportedly activating Jota’s £6m buy clause, Joseph claimed to GiveMeSport that there are no real issues in getting the deal over the line this summer.

He said: “I don’t think there’s any issues holding it up, other than perhaps Jota being on holiday, that’s probably it.

“I do expect it to go through. What we know is that Jota has told Benfica that he wants to join Celtic, he sees his future at Celtic and can see his progression in Glasgow.”

TIF Thoughts on Joseph’s comments…

Jota was vital for Celtic this season in their title-winning campaign, as he had the second-most goal contributions in the entire league (20), while he created the most big chances in the top flight (17) and had the third-highest average player rating (7.56), as per SofaScore.

With Jota at the forefront of the stats in the Scottish Premiership, there was almost no doubt that Postecoglou would be keen to get him in the door permanently next season, especially with the club qualifying for the Champions League group stages.

With the clause in his contract being just £6m, this would be a great deal for Celtic, as he is still just 23 years old, so he has plenty of time to improve and progress and potentially be part of the long-term future at Parkhead.
