Transfer insider Dean Jones has hinted that Aston Villa could be at the front of the queue when it comes to signing Yves Bissouma this summer.

Following fresh reports that the West Midlanders were tipped to reignite their interest in the midfielder by Pete O’Rourke, Jones has provided a clear update surrounding Bissouma’s future.

Do you think Bissouma will join Villa?

Just a day after the Premier League season drew to a close, Villa announced the signing of highly-sought centre-midfielder Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Marseille, but it appears that hasn’t stopped them from bringing in another enforcer as manager Steven Gerrard continues his major rebuild at Villa Park.

Philippe Coutinho has made his stay permanent, while a deal has also been agreed for Sevilla centre-back Diego Carlos, and despite having a £25m bid turned down by the Seagulls back in January, a similar figure could suffice this summer with the £29k-per-week ace entering the final 12 months of his deal on the south coast.

The precarious contract situation has reportedly led to increased interest from London clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, but when speaking to GiveMeSport regarding Spurs’ transfer activity, Jones said that their attempts to land the Mali international could be disrupted by Villa.

He said: “They’ll have massive competition to sign Bissouma and it seems that he’s probably further along in negotiations with other clubs.

“Somebody like Aston Villa might already be in the lead with trying to get him.”

TIF Thoughts on Bissouma to Villa…

Former Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie has hailed the 25-year-old as “phenomenal” for his ability on both sides of the ball, and despite a £50m valuation from his current employers back in the winter, that figure should be considerably lower given his contract situation.

Interestingly, the midfielder has stated that he feels he’s the ‘best’ in his position in the Premier League – which is something that Steven Gerrard may have something to say about, as he’s always been quick to praise John McGinn for his performances in the season just gone.

When Gerrard first took on the managerial role at Villa, he spoke of his desire to lead the club back into Europe, and by beating some of the league’s continental representatives to Bissouma, it would be a real statement for the club as they look to climb the table.
