Mark Douglas has been speaking on the latest episode of the Everything is Black and White podcast and has been discussing the failed takeover of Newcastle United after Amanda Staveley’s consortium withdrew its bid to buy the Toon.

Starting with an easy one, against which club did Shelvey make his Newcastle debut?

Douglas discussed what went wrong for the takeover and what is in store for the Toon.

One of the topics brought up by host Andrew Musgrove was the suggestion that this could be a tactic by the consortium to force the Premier League into making a decision, but Douglas has rejected that theory.

“They’ve said absolutely it is not a tactic. This is not an attempt to force anybody’s hand; we’ve walked away because the Premier League have been impossible to deal with – in their words.

“That is their opinion, we don’t yet have an explanation from the Premier League on what’s happened, and I am sure that their verdict will be different from the consortium.

“They say tonight [Thursday] it’s absolutely not a tactic.”

So, it seems as if the consortium have really walked away, and this is not an effort to force anything.

TIF Thoughts…

The news broke on Thursday that the consortium had walked away from this takeover deal.

Staveley claimed that the blame lies solely with the Premier League, and a PL source has claimed (via The Athletic’s Matt Slater) that the deal was ‘dead in the water’ because of the piracy issues.

Piracy in Saudi Arabia had plagued this deal throughout, and the Premier League has claimed that Saudi Arabia did not act in the right way to the World Trade Organisation’s report on piracy.

There are two sides to the story, but the people who are damaged in all this are the Newcastle fans, so we feel sorry for them in this current situation.
