Tim Krul will return to Newcastle in the summer.

According to a report in The Chronicle the keeper is looking forward to competing for the goal-keeper jersey again after proving his fitness while on loan to AZ Alkmaar.

Krul joined the Dutch side on the final day of the January transfer window after appearing close to joining Watford on loan.

After more than a year out of action the 28-year-old has played in eight matches in six weeks and is ready to show Rafa Benitez that he is back to his best.

With Karl Darlow, Matz Sels and Rob Elliot already at the club Benitez won’t be short of competition for the number one place.

Krul’s last match for Newcastle was in the 6-1 defeat at Manchester City in October 2015, in his next match, for the Netherlands he injured his knee ligaments in a Euro 16 qualifier away to Kazakhstan as Holland failed to qualify.
