Wayne Rooney wasn’t the only Manchester United player attracting attention from China with Shangdong Luneng trying to sign Ashley Young in a £10m deal.

According to a report in the Daily Mail Shangdong made a final attempt to land the former England winger before their transfer window closes on February 28.

Young is one of many players that have fallen out of the first team picture under Jose Mourinho but the United boss is loathe to lose anyone as his side compete for four trophies.

Everton, Watford and West Brom made enquiries about Young in January but were unwilling to meet United’s asking price and match the players wages.

Neither the fee or salary was a problem for the Chinese side but Young has decided against a bumper pay deal and will stay on at Old Trafford until the end of next season when his contract expires.

Young failed to make the bench for the Europa League tie away to St Etienne but could be recalled for the EFL Cup Final against Southampton at Wembley on Sunday after Michael Carrick and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were injured in the 1-0 win over the French side.
