West Brom have taken non-league winger Myles Phipps on a week long trial.
According to a report in the Birmingham Mail the Paget Rangers kid has impressed Albion scouts keeping tabs on the local non-league scene.
Albion have decided to bring Phipps in to get a close up look at the 18-year-old and to see how he reacts working in a professional environment.
The decision to look at younger local talent in the non-league scene is a big change in direction from the club as they look outside the Academy set-up for fresh talent.
Promising players at Phipps’ age are almost always tied up with senior clubs and filtering their way through playing under-age football.
With clubs like Paget Rangers able to offer competitive games against much older players Albion feel that in some cases players from outside the Academy network are in a better position to be ready for top team football.
