Manchester United have rejected a bid from Lyon for Memphis Depay.

According to a report in The Daily Mail the French side put in an initial bid of £13m with other bonus payments built in.

United are adamant that they won’t take a penny less than £17.5m which seems to be beyond the reach of the Lyon board.

Louis van Gaal paid PSV Eindhoven £25m for the winger in June 2015 but before the end of last season Depay had dropped out of the first team picture.

Jose Mourinho quickly decided that the 22-year-old was surplus to requirements but finding a buyer willing to match the terms of his four year contract won’t be easy.

Half a dozen Premiership side have expressed an interest in taking Depay on loan but Mourinho has stated that none of his first team squad are to go out on loan this month.

The former PSV man hasn’t started a single Premier League match this season, having to contend himself with four substitute appearances.
