Aston Villa and West Brom are both tracking James McCarthy.

According to a report in The Daily Mail the midfielder could be on his way out of Everton to make way for Morgan Schneiderlin

Ronald Koeman is keen to put his stamp on the Everton squad with McCarthy and other favourites of the Roberto Martinez days likely to be moved on.

Steve Bruce is a long term admirer of the midfielder but with Villa fighting for a place in the play-off’s it’s unlikely that McCarthy will risk stepping down to the Championship.

West Brom had a bid for Schneiderlin rejected by Manchester United but would be happy to pick up the Ireland midfielder if Everton are prepared to sell the midfielder.

McCarthy has been dogged by injury this season and was the subject of a club v country row between Roy Keane and Koeman earlier in the season.

Everton paid Wigan £12m for McCarthy in 2014 and are likely to be looking for £20m if he moves on this month.
